The first one was pants, this can be proved by a mathematical formula:
FPS + Console = Pants
No offence m8 but how can you quote someone saying "FPS + Console = Pants" then talk about the PC version, we all know that the PC version was a awful port, that goes without saying. Personally I love halo on the xbox and detest it on the PC.Originally Posted by 0iD
Hella looking forward to Halo 2 though.
The only reason Halo was so huge is because it introduced the chav console masses to FPS.
Recipe for Halo:
1 x Clunky control system (although not really Halo's fault, FPS with a controller is always naff)
1 x corridor (copy 450 times)
1 x small flying alien (copy 500 times)
1 x medium annoying alien who makes a stupid whining noise and runs away (copy 350 times)
1 x big alien (copy 75 times)
3 x useful weapons (roughly)
4 x pissy weapons (roughly)
2 x good vehicles (the buggy and the purple flying thingy - its been that long i cant remember the names)
put it all in a random order on a CD and load for 30 seconds, then leave to collect dust for 6 months. Careful, contents may begin to smell.
Seriously though, i actually enjoyed the first 5 minutes of the game. The first time you actually land on the Halo and can see it strectching up into the sky, with the different climates and seas, you cant help but think this game is going to be immense.
But then you spend 95% of the game wandering through the same corridor, killing the same aliens, and then coming out in a big snowy bit and repeating the whole process again.
ding-ding! Next stop dissapointment central.
May rent this one first to see what they've done with it, but im not holding my breath
yup, it was fun for about 5 minutes, then those 5 minutes kept repeating.. and repeating.. and repeating.. and repeating.. and repeating.. and repeating.. and repeating.. and....

Personaly... I believe consoles should be banned from FPS. If it wasnt for the auto aim that they give them, it would be impossble to do anything, and using 2 analoge sticks at once?? It scares the crap outa me that they expect you to be able to do anything at all!!!
[MOUSE + KEYBOARD > Controler] Anyday!!
Ohh also... "FPS + Console = Pants" that is the best line EVER!! (im puttin it in my sig right now )
A true gameplayer can adapt to whichever format is in front of him, even twin analogues
If it ain't broke, fetch a bigger hammer

Halo was a very, very average FPS, that sold a twazilion copies on the Xbox as it was pretty much the only AAA title on that platform at the time, so if you had an Xbox you went out and brought Halo.
I can't remember the last time there was so much fuss over so little game.
Still, be interesting to see how well Halo 2 compares to Half Life II and Doom III.
And you'll be taking it out again, or making the main sig pic much smaller, as your sig is now far too big.Originally Posted by Applecrusher

I dont think it is so much the genre of FPS that made such a fuss itself, but the fact that it was playable over a control pad and enjoyable as a console game and not a PC game. Not only do many FPS come close to it, they are so far past it, that the laws of space and time are breaking down, such is the vast distance.

I dont like playing PC games much, not to say I dont play them at all, but I much prefer playing consoles.
Fair enough, PCs gave the whole boom to FPS, but I never really enjoyed an "FPS" since playing Doom 2 until I played Halo (of which I was really sceptical of because every other FPS I played I didnt really like).
I have played the odd PC FPS since Halo, but Halo on the XBOX remains one of my favourite games.
Dont think it would be fair to compare them, Half Life II and Doom III are really meant for the PC, good PCs . . . Halo was originally programmed for the XBOX as is the 2nd one.Still, be interesting to see how well Halo 2 compares to Half Life II and Doom III.
Halo as an "FPS" (by classification) for PC gamers is probably a no-no, but I think it's simply a GOOD game whichever way its looked at.
To be honest I could see this thread turning into a pc vs console debate, so many halo/halo 2 threads have.
I am pc through and through my xbox is mainly for playing avi's on tv but I did really enjoy halo, I am not saying its the best fps ever, but I do think its a good game, the multiplayer is fun too.
No doubt that for fast passed accurate fps gaming you cant beat a mouse and
keyboard, but I do think that the autoaim and anologues made it very playable, I think halo 2 will continue on that theme too.
Just right for me m8 but then again I have big hand1 x Clunky control system (although not really Halo's fault, FPS with a controller is always naff)
