Call to protest: Modern Warefare 3

I spotted this on YouTube, I hope it hasn't already been posted on here.

I haven't quite decided how I feel about this protest, I agree with what he is protesting about, but not sure that he would get enough people behind the protest and even if he got every MW3 player to stop playing for 24 hours, I'm not sure that Activision or IW would even notice.

What do you guys think about this?

Re: Call to protest: Modern Warefare 3

I'd heard talk of this but it seems very little actually happened. I was down the pub on Friday myself so I suppose I took part in the loosest sense but the things mentioned in that video and by most of the people that supported the idea are problems that the community has had with the way Infinity Ward do multiplayer gaming since MW2. The best way to protest would have been to not by MW3 in the first place until they were sure the game met their expectations to be honest so I have very little sympathy.

That said, if the community had laid down controllers as a whole even just for one night Activision and IW would have noticed very very quickly. They're exceptionally proud of the fact that even older versions of their games top the most played stats on Xbox Live and often make hay of them in the press as a sly mid digit to other publishers when they release a game that competes for their player base like GoW or Battlefield.

Re: Call to protest: Modern Warefare 3

I was a part of the MW2 boycott.

If that many people can get that irate about a game, and start a full-scale boycott, and then completely fold and buy it anyway, why on earth would Activision give a flying diddly about a 24-hour MW3 protest?

All they care about is cash. MW2 sold bucketloads, MW3 sold bucketloads. MW4 will sell bucketloads too.

If people want to protest, don't buy MW4. But we said that about MW2, and everybody bought it anyway, so I don't really have much faith.

Yeah, I've been away for a conference so I also took part in the loosest sense. I very much doubt it had any impact,

Judging by the way Activision/IW chose that day to start a Double XP weekend makes me think that they would have seen more players playing than they would on a regular weekend. Also judging by how I posted this on the 15th and the first reply was on the 24th shows how little most people care about the issues anyway.

I haven't bought any CoD game since the very first Modern Warfare. That's my own way of "protesting", by not giving them my money in the first place!

This is my first CoD game, so I don't really have a fair basis for comparison to the others.

Re: Call to protest: Modern Warefare 3

As much as I hate MW3 and like to protest, this is pointless since most people have already bought it -- Activision would be happy for everyone to stop playing it, so they have an excuse to bring the next recycled round of garbage they call a sequel.

The protest was nearly a full month ago, this is quite an old post now. But I think you might have a good point in that people generally like to complain, some people seem to be happiest when they find something to be unhappy about and audience to share that with.

Re: Call to protest: Modern Warefare 3

Many of us have stopped supporting any Activision or Ubisoft FPS altogether.

We're done giving them our money.

We play ArMa/ Ghost Recon &Rainbow Six(RSE) or just keep testing this Indie game called Ground Branch.

It has a Kickstarter ---- very different from Takedown Kickstarter--- so please don't compare

Oh DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT WORK FOR BLACKFOOT STUDIO LLC
but in behalf of John Sonedecker of Blackfoot Studio LLC, I'd like to share this Update from his Indie Game: Ground Branch

He'd be glad to do an Interview, please try to reach him at Blackfoot Studio LLC or Facebook BlackfootStudio

    Thx

Ground Branch has a DRM-Free version, and supports Offline play!

Some of our community has expressed interest in being able to play the game, independent of Steam. We are pleased to announce that, every backer of Ground Branch, will now have the choice!

We will be providing two executables:

    1. A Steam Release (which uses Steamworks for online features such as matchmaking, VOIP and Mod Distribution through the SteamWorkshop) and...

    2. A DRM-Free version of the game, which can be played without an internet connection, and used for gamers with LAN-only setups or that want to play the solo portions of Ground Branch without connecting to the internet.

Both versions are free of install limits, and we are not using services like SecuROM. The Steam version can be used for offline LAN as well, but must use Valve's "Offline Mode" if you plan to be without a connection. Either way, all current and future backers have access to both, in the event that they need to be away from the internet! This is great news, if you're deployed, or just want to more easily host a LAN party and play our game!

Gamespy is no longer being considered.

Please include us on any protest from Activision/ Ubisoft FPS.

Zak addition: Mods and Admins have pondered this post, as it's spammy and yet not a bad thing in some ways. However we do not allow pimping or advertising on the forum without our express permission.. which was not gained. I will leave this post here, but will lock the entire thread, allowing it to slip to the bottom of the thread section: apology to opening poster, but needs must
