    Dark Souls coming to PC

Dark Souls: Prepare To Die Edition will feature new bosses, enemies, NPCs, areas, weapons, armour, and an online matchmaking system offering quick matching for co-op or PVP, according to Game Informer. It will be released at retail and digitally worldwide on the 24th of August, 2012.
The above is only an excerpt. Here's the source.

I am surprised that there isn't a topic on this yet considering how its prequel was a sleeper hit and gathered a huge following. I have played neither this nor the prequel but I am still very much intrigued by this game. Still, me not having played it might stay that way as it apparently will be using Games for Windows Live and after watching this video, I am not impressed. What do you guys think of Dark Souls coming to the PC? Will GFWL benefit it or harm it?

Re: Dark Souls coming to PC

GFWL will harm it as it does all games, nearly didn't play my free copy of Fable III because of GFWL, after that the game itself pushed me away.

As for being interested about Dark Souls PC version, not at all. The most common fault of console ports is the shoddy control system that they just map to keys and a mouse instead of a joystick & buttons. Understandably overhauling the control system is a massive task all by itself but without performing that task it's pointless porting the game to PC. I don't think they'll overhaul the control system and therefore I will get annoyed with the game so won't spend money on it, far too many good games designed for PC out there that deserve my support for me to bother with console ports.

From Softare responds to anti-GFWL petition:

As to why PC gamers oppose GFWL:

GFWL is only available in 35 countries.

GFWL requires that automatic Windows Updates be turned on:

GFWL deletes a guy's save data:
    http://forums.steampowered.com/forum....php?t=2646522

Other stuff that you can Google:

    - Some games require an always online connection. Some games can be played offline, but some games cannot.

    - Virtually all DLC must be played in online mode.

    - GFWL has serious connectivity issues. This is really bad for a game with an online multiplayer component.

    - Sometimes, GFWL just locks you out of their server for a while (their server becomes unresponsive to your particular login). This is so common that it is termed "ID lock". You can't play games that require a connection to GFWL when you are locked out.

    - Every time you play a GFWL game, you have to wait about 15 or so seconds for GFWL to log in and then reload the game's title screen. If you attempt to play the game before GFWL logs in, none of your data will be saved.

    - Every time GFWL updates, you are REQUIRED to update it to continue to play your games, and there is literally an 80% chance that the update will fail and/or delete your save data:

Re: Dark Souls coming to PC

Loved Demon's Souls on the PS3 still up there with the best games I have played, (didn't feel Dark Souls was quite as good but then it had a lot to live up to) but i do not see either of these translating well to PC and if GFWL is involved i wouldn't touch it with a barge pole)

My friend loved this on the 360 so will probably have a look at this when it comes out. As for GfWL, honestly don't care, so won't join in the witch hunt. Played quite a few games on the PC with this and apart from Gears of War, haven't experienced the 'issues' that it has. But I guess if it works you don't hear about it.

Control wise, won't be an issue. It will map exactly as the 360 version to a pad, as I'm pretty sure that's one of the prerequisites, that is supports the 360 pad natively.

The game is meant to be amazing, so I wont cut off my nose to spite my face, let's hope they can at least add some PC specific graphics options so that we can push our GPUs to the max.

Will probably play through this again just because of the new content.
