    The Walking Dead

Has anyone got this? What are your thoughts?

The Borderlands style graphics look awesome, and the game play looks quite good too, but I have seen few videos/reviews, and after a friend bought the BttF series from the same developers and it wasn't exactly the best game out there, I am a bit cautious.

It's on Steam for ~£20 for all episodes, tempted but would like some "real" gamers feedback first.

    Re: The Walking Dead

It wasn't really my type of game, I bought it because I enjoyed the TV series. I see the game more as a story based on the comic, character development and so on rather than a "real" game.

    Re: The Walking Dead

I know it's a bit mean not to be buying it now, but I reckon once all 5 episodes are out, wait a few months and they will hit the Steam sales for about a fiver for all episodes.

I should buy it and support the dev but right now I have games left right and centre to get through.

    Re: The Walking Dead

Loving this. I liked the comic way more than the TV show and im liking this more than the tv show. That said I still enjoy the tv show.

The only problem is they are pretty short but on the plus side they do offer replay value. I just NEED to know what happens in the story so they are getting 400 points out of me for really just a few hours of gameplay, I can't help it.

Only played episode 1 so far but that was great, the story does really grab you even though there isn't really much you can do wrong with regard to actually playing the game. Shall be getting episode 2 shortly I reckon.

    Re: The Walking Dead

It's... Odd, odd but good. I bought the first episode as a stranger to Telltale games so I wasn't sure what I was getting into but I'm a big Walking Dead fan so I figured it was worth a look. It doesn't play like a traditional adventure game, it's more an interactive story with action beats and dialogue choices like Heavy Rain. It does still manage to get you (me) stuck looking for very specific objects or beginnings to certain chains of events though so I guess it carries some of that DNA.

I found the first episode a tad formulaic because beyond the relationship you develop with one particular character it is very much the standard "Man gets to grips with the fact the dead want to munch on him and tries to find somewhere safe to cower", good gameplay, but it suffers for being such a familiar origin story even with the Walking Dead style twists.

But, after playing the second episode yesterday I'm pleased to say the group dynamic and scraps over leadership are beginning to come into it more along with the reprecussions of certain decisions I've made along the way, making it much more interesting. I get the feeling I'm caught between factions within my own group already and hopefully that's something they develop over the next few episodes as aside from the odd brown trousers moment (and there are a few) it's the most interesting facet to the game so far.

Good so far, lots of potential, but not earth shatteringly great would be my verdict. Unless you're a massive fan of the comics/show, in which case for the cameo's and new POV of the universe it's a no brainer at five quid a shot.

I am thoroughly enjoying part 1 and looking forward to picking up episode 1. Big fan of "character development" games and it doesn't help that I am a huge fan of both the series and the comic. Looking forward to see where they go with the remaining episodes. Certainly a recommendation for not just fans of the series.

    Re: The Walking Dead

The slow build up of ep1 is a master class in story telling. As Knoxville says, it does turn to be slightly formulaic. But it's still an excellent adventure.

Indeed, ep2 is much better. And it gets very creepy, and horrific in parts. The beginning and ends are particularly intense; and it's not all to do with zombies.

Fabulous little games. And essential at this price (for me it was 400msp on Xbox).
