I've just done a mass of google'n for info, without any luck

I always assumed it was to improove anti-cheat, by perharps loading various types of security modules each time so you can't predict the exact nature of it. Either that or its unpractical to check for every type of 'hack' in one, thus it randomly selects a module which looks for a selection.
    Thats just me guessing though
We cannot choose what we are.. but what are we but the sum of our choices?

it loads VAC's security module everytime you join a server / change map so any recent cheat's that are found can be detected straight away....go play on a non-vac server and it wont be there

Its going to take them a while to shut down all the known ones. It seems like all the cheaters have gone over to 1.6 now. Shame they are shutting down WON over the summer

IF they do close all the sites down, then they'll just go underground and place the files on kazaa, bit-torrent or whatever p2p client they demand - thus making it harder to find and catch them.

I hope for the sake of valve - that during this delay they have actually looked at anti-cheat measures and also closing these holes in the forthcoming HL2 and CS:Source.

You hope. Just have to wait and see really. I have to say that the whole "Omg he shot me, he must be cheating" mentality is just as bad as the cheats themselves. Especially when you get banned for it

Yeh the amount of people who abuse someone for supposedly cheating is almost as bad as the amount of cheaters i suspect. Unfortunately im not good enough to be thought to be a cheat

to be honest the amount of dodgy looking people AND the cheat accusations has dropped hell of a lot in the last 6 months.
