    Game recommendations for my netbook

I need to test some scripts for some one on some games to see how they do ,is there anything I cant get away with ,with these sort of specs ?

I need something hack n slash , or using multiple hits - i.e. autofire or turbo basically for different move sets like youd see in batman, witcher ,street fighter etc

NB** THAT WAS MEANT TO BE NETBOOK - SRY

Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 3 (2600.xpsp_sp3_gdr.111025-1629)
    System Model: Advent 4211
    BIOS: Default System BIOS
    Processor: Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU N270 @ 1.60GHz (2 CPUs)
    Memory: 1014MB RAM
    DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)

    thanks,

    m

    Atom? GMA900? Oh dear.

Erm... Try games from about 10-15 years ago, on low detail. Diablo 2?

Re: Game recommendations for my netbook

Without more detail it's kinda hard to say, but it sounds like your friend is trying to script inputs to gain an advantage in games? Really, your only choice when doing that is to test the games they're meant to run in to see how the game engine reacts to the scripted input.

As 'hex says, Diablo 2 should just about run, and Torchlight has a netbook mode which is meant to be just about playable on an original Atom/945G netbook. I also used to play Neverwinter Nights on lowest graphics settings acceptably on GMA3100, so you might get away with that.

Incidentally, you can edit the thread title by editing the first post of the thread then clicking "Go Advanced"

Re: Game recommendations for my netbook

Edited your title to Netbook Melon.

I would suggest maybe have a look at GOG, loads of old games on there that should run fine on a Netbook. Things like Darkstone, Early Might & Magic games, Silver, Soulbringer, Sacrifice, Commandos series and a load more. When you open an account there you get 6 free games, mainly adventure stuff but at least its something to get you started.

I think there is someone Melon knows very well who has a physical problem with button mashing. Scripts that emulate multiple mouse/keyboard presses with one key might enable said person to enjoy action heavy games that they weren't able to. Most of these games can't be exploited as there's a maximum input rate/inherent cooldown.

I would recommend torchlight - it has a netbook mode, and is a good example of the genre in terms of a relatively high mashing rate but not over the top.

Re: Game recommendations for my netbook

I would suggest installing Steam and then download a stack of the free demo versions of games to see what it can handle. Also, it's quite possible that BF3 might not run very well at all!

kalniel, explained the problem in a nutshell.

Do you think something like Auto script would work on, Onlive or an emulator ?

Utterly brilliant games everyone should own, and great netbook recommendations if you've got a good enough trackpad or use external mouse, but they are not the following:

Re: Game recommendations for my netbook

Some game demo's on Steam have benchmark options, Just Cause 2 and Mafia 2 are two games that spring to mind, Batman Arkham Asylum also had a benchmark tool but I never played the demo so I don't know if it is in there. There is a site that's dedicated to creating scripts purely for use in benchmarking games, I think it's a Brazilian site called Adrenaline and they have created scripts for a few games including Crysis 2 and some racing games, if that helps.

I think its my GPU thats the big issue as its not even high enough to play Runes of Magic and stuff like Drakensang.

The strange thing about that though ,was that I was able to play Lego Online

There was a list of netbook friendly games on the old MSI wind forums, and might be worth checking there, and similar netbook specific forums.

Re: Game recommendations for my netbook

I have an Asus Eee 901 that has similar specs to your netbook and I used to play the following on it quite happily:

Thief the Dark Project (now available on steam)
Thief 2 the metal age (now available on steam)
System Shock 2 (pattern forming here dark engine games!)
    Freelancer
Knights of the Old Republic (little bit choppy at times but mostly fine)
Diablo 2 - fine just don't build a fishy mancer, all those minions on the screen and it gets a little too hot
    Half-Life
World of Goo (which I noticed was ~£2 on steam yesterday)
Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2
    Starcraft 1
    Neverwinter nights 1 (low detail)

That's all I can remember (off the top of my head).

Re: Game recommendations for my netbook

another 901 owner here, I've bodged minecraft, it runs, but I'd really say that it's not really playable.

I'm mainly running old dos/90's games, xcom/ufo enemy unknown, terror from the deep, dune2000, civilization 2, I've tried out Dungeons of Dredmor (modern rouge like) the game works but the menu systems don't on the 901 as the 600 vertical res is too small (no way to resize the menu windows)

ok you might of spotted something, a lot of turn based games, the reason for that is you can put down and pick up a turn based game at any time.

I'd generally stick to 2d games the 945g chipset really isn't that great for most basic 3d

I would consider upgrading it from 1gb to 2gb ram if you can pick up a cheap stick (netbooks only have 1 SOdimm slot)

EDIT: One thing you can use which is actually quite fun, GameMaker lite version is free and you can make your own games

Well , as Im in no shape to upgrade a pc I've been thinking of just buying a new laptop instead, since Cat mentioned these new Trinity-based laptops from AMD coming out soon. If the price is decent enough I might get one , esp given its performance graphically compared to the HD3000
