if you have played the original and liked it, no.
if you haven't played the original, go and buy that instead for a fiver, you'll enjoy it more than the sequel, even though it looks a little dated.
how does it play? is like a max payne type game or a FPS?
well, it's an fps/rpg crossover - you've got options to complete the game by shooting everything that moves, or you can do it by stealth...there's a lot of rpg elements though - the way you interact with characters can have an effect on how difficult your next mission will be.
In the original there were separate skills and "augmentations" systems - skills were things such as lockpicking, computer (hacking basically), electronics, pistol, rifle, demolition - these would all make certain aspects of the game easier. augmentations were basically nanotech upgrades for different bits of you -there's a regen upgrade, a targeting/visual upgrade....and so on. there was also a cash ssytem for buying ammo and so on - you'd get skill points for completing areas of the game and cash by hacking ATMs and completing some paid missions. Augmentations (and their upgrades) you could either buy or discover on your travels.
The sequel removes the skills system and replaces it more with Cash on one hand and Biomods (like augmentations, but you have less options, and they are mostly a big bag of crap) on the other.
In terms of how does it play - it (the sequel) plays like a horrible port from a console -it's very spec intensive (my 9800 Pro struggles with it at times), and the crosshair is the biggest monstrosity I've dealt with.

I really liked Deus Ex 2. It runs fine on my system, even with the very nice community texture pack. The whole universe of Deus Ex 2 is much more contracted then the first game and is a small step backward in a couple of areas, but it is still enjoyable nonetheless.
To err is human. To really foul things up ... you need a computer.
a universal constant for any game with consumable resouces is to reward thriftiness. the resourceful user who uses his shotgun has more rockets and bfg9000 shots left for the bigger mosters later. simple & logical, no?Originally Posted by yamangman
deus ex 2 has "unified" ammo, with more ammo being used by bigger guns. except it's done proportionately, and not as proportinately as the killing power. if you are used to running about using pistol ammo to save rockets, forget it - rockets are more efficient and use less ammo-per-kill.
you're punished for not always using the biggest gun.
that and the game gives you the best biomod, the one which detonates enemy explosives as they're fired, on level 1
and you can no longer approach a level from six or seven standpoints, there is a second option at most.
I'm not entirely sure if your quoting of what I said was because you are disagreeing with me, as I said the whole universe is much more contracted. But I still found it an enjoyable game to play, and I personally would recommend 'bobby' to buy it, as there is fun to be had.

Another dx2 hater. ah...the original was a work of modern art. Infact. There should be an ageing PC that is running that silently in the Tate modern or something. Formaldehyde cooled obviously.
I too hated the crap AMMO thing in the second game. I also have issues with the swing rotate uber crud HUD system. WTF are the keys to run that crap ? Tab used to suffice. system shock 2 had more options and only needed "tab" to exist.
Hacking ? Keypads. were all fun and balanced in the first game IMO.
I found myself crying bloody tears when I was gritted teething my way through DX2. waste of money, and I couldn't be arsed completing it. Atmosphere... choice ? it cares not.
See what I mean? Everyone loves it. It's a keeper

so i should get the first one then?
You havn't played 'Deus Ex'?! Buy both and give us an opinion on them from a deus ex virgin! I for one would like to hear it.
