Hey Peeps
I have played Skyrim to death and I am looking for another RPG to play. Been playing a lot of FPS type RPGs so looking for something a bit different.
Anyone recommend anything. Old or New.
Cheers.

Kingdoms of Amalur is a decent hack & slash RPG
Baldurs Gate 1&2 and Icewind Dale 1&2 are awesome classics
The Witcher 1&2
Drakensang : The Dark Eye & The River of Time - Dark eye is available on Gamersgate, River of Time is REALLY hard to get hold of though.
Two Worlds 1&2 - First one has been fixed and is actually a really good game, best to get it on GOG as it has the expansion included, TW2 is on Steam and is visually impressive and some great locations. Alchemy and Magic system is second to none, you can create almost anything you can think of. There is a video about of it raining anvils on enemies.
Gothic series - Only thing I dont like about the first 3 games is no quest map markers so quite a bit of reading and searching about to find objectives. Excellent gams if you can get into them. Arcania a lot of Gothic fans slated but I enjoyed it start to finish. Only one to really avoid is Forsaken Gods as it is a terrible game on all levels.
Divine Divinity & Divinity 2 - Divine Divinity is a fantastic Diablo style RPG (2D Isometric) but over land instead of just dungeon levels, story is excellent and combat is fun. Divinity 2 is full 3D and versions now come with Dragon Knight expansion.
Excellent list above. I'll add:
Dragon Age: Origins - epic masterpiece from Bioware. So much lore, fantastic new setting and fairly gritty epic adventure. Just don't play the sequel.
NWN 2 + Mask of the Betrayer - fantastic sequel to a fairly good game, but really takes it up a notch, especially the expansion MotB. One of the finest D&D games in existence.
Diablo 3 - the daddy of action RPGs. Not without its problems, but at the end of the day and amazingly polished experience.
Torchlight - Diablo on the cheap! Only, it's really good in it's own right!
Kings Bounty - More of a strategy take on an RPG. Slightly camp setting, but has a lot of charm.
Ferral is lucky he got The Witcher series in first, I'd break the forum's superlative limit describing them...

Raising the dead here a bit, but for those unaware, Baldur's Gate & Tales of the Sword Coast will be re-released as an enhanced version on Sept 18th. So if you loved it the first time around, it should be worth picking up again, especially with the tweaks that have been made, and the fact it will be so much easier to run on Win7 etc.

As mentioned a few posts earlier, Baldur's gate is great and there is a Baldur's gate enhanced remake due to come out in less than 2 weeks so that might be worth checking out.

Android version .... to be announced. *sigh* And no word on whether they'll be submitting for Playbook. If they do I'll definitely be interested![]()
Maybe try Dark Souls? Get the mod patch/fix too and it looks way better than vanilla on the PC. It's a port yes but one of the hardest/challenging rpgs I've ever played and as such feels way more rewarding when you conquer enemies.
mount and blade: warband
not really a rpg in the traditional sense, its more like an open ended medieval empire/action/rpg hybrid. the empire biulding starts off with just one guy, then you get a gang together, eventually control of a castle/land etc.. the action is a bit FPS but you can do things like joust instead of shooting, explore cities (well, inns mostly) or take part in some incredible battles, which is best imagined as experiencing one of the total war games from the 1st person. The RPG element consists mostly of assigning points to skills and attributes of yourself and companions.
The open-ended concept does have its drawbacks, and gameplay does get repetitive after a while, but you might get more milage out the game by moving over to one of the total conversions. I played 'prophecies of pendor' almost to its end and 'brytenwalda' which is an epic take on dark ages britain.
Dragon Age Origins, Witcher 1 & 2, Mass Effect 1, 2 & 3.
Try some of the best RPGs of all time. Fallout 1 and 2 (or New Vegas, if you want something more modern). Also try Planescape: Torment, the best written game of all time. Great story and characters.
Drakensang online!![]()
Speaking of RPGs, the entire DRM-free AD&D RPG set is going for £18.50, including Baldur's Gate 1&2, Icewind Dale 1&2, Planescape Torment, and Neverwinter Nights: http://www.gog.com/en/promo/hasbro_stacking_promo
how about GW2![]()
Well if you fancy something cheap, funny and on the JRPG side get Cthullu Saves the World. Extremely nostalgic in the vein of SNES era Final Fantasy games, excellent self aware humour and can be had for less than a pint.
