These are some of the better shots I've seen posted. Lots of screen dumps show basically a very dark room with just a small section lit up with the flashlight, and if you select a weapon you lose the flashlight so you can't see what you're shooting! Well, I haven't actually played it so its a bit premature to criticise but I don't like the sound of this flashlight/weapon business at all. I just hope the very dark sections form only a small part of the game.

Can anyone guess how this will run on the system in my sig? I'm going to be renting my first house soon, so an X800XT PE is a bit out of my price range

It will run absolutely fine. I know it runs fine @ 1280x1024 on high settings with a system spec basically the same as mine and it fine to play even with older drivers.

Doom 3 I can honestly say is one of those games where the graphics work just as well on a lower setting and it does fly along quite happily.

The 9800 runs it great, it can just about manage high settings with a bit of a stutter when things get messy but on medium it shoots along.

Well my card is a 9700, the only difference is its got 256 memory on it and it runs more than fine on medium 1600x1200. And if you still worried the last time my graphics drivers where updated where January..

Worse case you might have to turn off a few of the extras like the spec lighting to reduce the amount of texture information, but I seriously doubt it.

What I meant about the lower setting is it's such a dark game and fast once it gets going that it's hard to notice any realy difference when your playing it unless your looking for it.

Cheers guys, I may pop down my local Game store when this ships, although I have a Master's thesis to write that could be slightly delayed by a bright shiny new game

For anyone that has played through it.
    What's it like?
    Gameplay, Music, Atmosphere?

Is it a long, movie-like game like Unreal 1?
Any similarities to the 1st Doom?

    Was it worth the wait?
    Best game ever?
    Worth 60$?
What hardware specs do you need, to enjoy it at 60FPS, with Graphics set to full & 1024x768 res?

Despite all the hype about the graphics and engine those screenshots dont look as good as some of the stuff you can get in Farcry

Are there any places in Doom3 where you get ambushed by 20+ zombie guys at once, like in Doom1 & 2?
I loved those moments, where you would get mobbed by 30 zombie bastards in a tight spot & having only your trusty shot-gun to blast through! That was one of the coolest features of the original Doom.
If Doom3 isn’t like that, then it’s missing a lot!

If it’s similar to Half-Life & Quake 2, then I’ll probably not like it much.
    Didn’t enjoy those games.

By the way, is the boss music any good? That’s a very important factor in my book.
Also are the missions divided into revisit-able hubs (aka Hexen) or is like the boring repetitive levels of Quake2?
I liked the old-school mission objectives & level structure of older FPS, a lot more than the boring defensive levels of Unreal 2.

    My PC:
    P4 2.4GHZ FSB400MHZ
    GF4 Ti4200 128MB 8X AGP
    768MB RDRAM PC800 400MHZ
    Detonator 56.72

What should I expect, at 1024x768, no shadows, no AA, no vsync, but most graphics settings to full?
Unreal 2 played very well on this PC (45-60FPS)

Does the original game come in 1 DVD or in various CDs? If so how many?

    Thanks in advance.
