    Tweaking doom 3 graphics

I reckon that ID software may have gone a bit insane supplying the best graphics engine ever made without any standard settings configurations.

As far as I know radion 9700/9800 pro users can get it to use settings from RAD linker or the radion global settings, but I've selected OpenGL to all the decent settings and the performance seems the same as the d3 default configurations.

I think the best thing would be texture compression and decent amounts of antialiasing and anisotopic filtering, has anyone got some good settings advice?

Heh, it's not really that insane. They all had deadlines to meet and at the end they would've rushed it. Anyone remember dungeon keeper 2? Anyone remember that you couldn't run the game from the auto-runner? Oh the joy of sending out millions of copies and no-one being able to play it So personally I don't think iD did too badly and perhaps there's something we don't know about those standard configurations

I think that the engine has been done well, and most definitely met their goals of making a horror movie style doom. Who else thinks they took a very long time for such a powerful software house?
I'm sure you're right about ID doing a good job overall, but you've got to be joking to say they didn't have time to do a graphic settings general user interface .cfg editor.

i reckon they should remake doom3 with the original doom engine, for 386-486 users!
would probably make the game less dark to....

doom3s gonna get some great mods churned out by fans dissapointed of the game and ones that have found the game amazing
im just worried that hl2 modders wont use the hl2 engine and theyll just use the doom3 engine which to me looks better apart from the physics on the objects which is rubbish on doom3

re: "im just worried that hl2 modders wont use the hl2 engine and theyll just use the doom3 engine"

I'd say it'll be driven more by how good the *tools* are rather than the *engines.* From what I've seen so far, HL2 seems to have some pretty good tools with it. There's also the support that Valve/Id give to the mod community: who knows who will turn out best in this respect.

I was thinking about Doom3 modding today, funnily enough. I kinda left myself with the impression (wrongly?) that just getting a simple level up and running my be a real chore, as people are going to expect the same overall level of finish/detail that Id themselves provided - and as one poster said, it took them long enough to get this 'short game with tiny levels' out the door, so what chance do part-timers stand?

Guess we'll just have to see how things develop. Still, I can't see it being anything like the good old days with Doom 1/2. Maybe someone should do Duke Nukem Forever in the HL2 or Doom3 engine? - before 3DRealms finish, which might not be hard... :-)
