Please help me find a suitable game for a one armed person

This is quite complicated, but just like so many other resurrected Vietnamese, I have had one of my arms that came off at some point in time. I can use the mouse fairly well, but I have to use the keyboard with my foot at the moment.
I have found that I can play doom3 really well in easy mode using the keyboard with my toes, because I basically only , press that forwards, flashlight and change weapons keys.

does anyone know what games I can play navigating with the mouse, and using just a few keys?

Flight sim games ? if you have the right joystick you should not need the kbd :)

basically any RTS ;)

CnC generals is a good exaple, or any CnC game really. Civ3 is another classic thats easy enough - these games are pretty much mouse only so shouldntbe a problem :)

Aye RTS games can be play with only one hand or no hand at all tbh :)

Get a good Saitek stick with programmable buttons and one hand is all you need ;)

LMB=Fire
RMB=forward (use it all the time - great, can run along while sipping tea with your left hand - practically changed my life; won't help you with tea, zombie, but still)
MMB=torch/alt fire/zoom/whatever
Mouse Wheel - swap weapons

Mash keyboard with foot to jump/use etc

Thats you sorted. Seriously people, try move on your RMB, you won't regret it.

Freelancer is also mostly mouse work I think.

Need for Speed underground. All you need to use is the forward, backward, left, right, insert and del (for manual gears) and space for NOS.

You should try a piece of software called Voice Commander which I have used successfully to keep the number of keys needed to a minimum in complicated games. You assign voice commands to keys or combinations of keys and thereafter you just command the game with spoken words. You'll need a headset with microphone to use it.

Recommended game - Mech Warrior 4 series you can play on a half decent joystick. Commanding your lance isn't really that necessary IMO but maybe a couple of key presses to tell them to attack nearest target and you should be fine. For full control over your lance game commander software worked well as this is how I played it.

My father-in-law had a stroke & lost the use of one arm. Being a hardened OAP gamer I got him a nostromo speedpad which he uses to good advantage.

A good driving game....accelerate and brake on the fire buttons of a joystick (DONT try to use lean forward and lean back for accel/brake....recipe for disaster)

The joystick is a perfect driving tool...

choose Auto gearbox and use the spare buttons for camera changes and stuff.

Job done?

When I first saw this thread I started thinking of a way to mod a keyboard and mouse to add some of the keybord functionality to the mouse. But its been done already :p. Decent enough price as well :).

I would reccomend the Belkin Nostromo Speedpad but only if you have use of your left hand, as it is meant to replace the keyboard and be used with the mouse. However it has an inbuilt 8 way pad, a throttle control and 10 fully programmable keys which you can extend to 3 overlays meaning up to 30 keys assigned with your own commands.

You could also look at the MS Gamevoice for voice recognition commands, not suitable for rapid response type instructions but very handy for swapping weapons, tools, views, teams etc when this doesn't have to be split second action.

As has been said many RTS games can be played with mouse only, and with either of the above tools you will have full functionality. I'm currently enjoying Soldiers - Heros' of WWII and have never had to use the keyboard, Star Wars KOTOR is just as enjoyable and can be played with mouse only. Freelancer is also a fast action game that can be played with mouse only.

I didn't want to make things too complicated originally, but the truth is that for mousing purposes I have fastened a modified optical mouse to the underside of a sandal, and it's a great design. So really I am playing with only my toes.
These ideas are really great! I will try all of these, and perhaps I could try a joystick with one hand, which would be great for driving games and even space simulators that could be even more chilled out.
I was thinking of freelancer, but it actually uses almost all the keys on the keyboard! Perhaps with a voice recognition.

I have not actually lost my hands but I have carpal tunnel syndrome, and I think the way to heal it best is to stay above the comfort threshold.

The dad of one of my friends is worse off though, he was an ex basketball coach and an independent reporter and lost two arms and a leg at the UN embassy explosion in Baghdad. I'll pass on what you have told me to him.
