Warning: Crysis 3 Will Melt Your PC, Says Crytek

    http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/Crytek...ws-39673.html#

From what I gather it will push massive levels of tessellation and particle effects from reading other articles. So basically another poorly optimised game from Crytek.

However, unlike Crysis it will be on consoles too, probably meaning more linear levels, which were seen in Crysis 2.

    Meh.

Crysis 2 had some good in it but the lack of proper physics, small levels and a crappy FOV really hurt it on the PC. Whilst they can up the eye candy they can't give us a better PC game without changing the fundamentals that relate to gameplay.
The videos of it are looking great but they've a way to go to get back on par with Crysis.

    Hmm, I am slightly pessimistic...

Crysis 1 was a game ahead of the tech and really was a graphical masterpiece of it's time.

Crysis 2 was nothing of the sort.....because it was written with consoles in mind.

Can they really strike a balance in C3?

    http://www.moddb.com/games/crysis-2/mods

    Just looking at this:

    http://www.moddb.com/mods/rgot

    ...shows what could of been..

    Crysis 1 was brilliant because:

    - big levels
    - multiple attack routes
    - suit powers gave you lots of options on how to solve a level
    - amazing graphics (heck, modded it still looks wonderful)
    - comparatively great physics (2 removed most of this) without physx
    - destructible environments
    - lots of vehicles
    - 'proper' FOV

So they just need to add: big levels, amazing graphics, physics, destructible environments, vehicles and a proper FOV.

Re: Warning: Crysis 3 Will Melt Your PC, Says Crytek

Crysis 2 severely dented my trust in Crytek. Tessellated underground oceans, hyper tessellated boulders, lower quality textures than the first game(!),linear levels, changing the aliens to walkers so they could use the same AI models as humans(easier on consoles),etc.

I can see Crysis 3 being so poorly optimised for PC,that it will make Crysis and Crysis2 look like games that can run on an IGP! Basically,AMD and Nvidia will be rubbing their hands in glee, especially with the simply pathetic performance increases we are seeing each generation(with the excuses being leveled at TSMC,who are the scape goat for all of this).

I can see that both AMD and Nvidia probably have a hand in all of this TBH.

    Crysis 1

Lets introduce a useless DX10 mode, which gives you a few nominal effects but craters performance, then lets also gimp DX9 settings in the menu too. Of course they could have used much higher quality DX9 settings and made Crysis look even better than the DX10 mode. However,it would not drive DX10 forward would it??

    Crysis 2

Lets make a console game in DX9 only. Wait a second,we need to make a PC port. PC gamers only what their cards pushed,so lets introduce stupid levels of tessellation,to appear to make the game "next gen" but keep with lower resolution textures than the first game. AMD and Nvidia won't be angry with us anymore!

The worst thing is that the MaLDoHD Mod shows how little effort they put into their textures.

    Crysis 3

People are complaining the second game was not PC focussed enough. Lets just ramp up all the settings, irrespective if settings 5 or 11 make much difference. Then we can be uber mates with AMD and Nvidia now!

Lets tesslelate the dust particles!! They are the most dustiest dust you will ever find in the any game, its even more realistic than real life!! Crytek HyperLIFE technology. Get your face masks ready. A Crytek HyperMASK will be given away with pre-orders, and is proven to reduce allergies from Crytel HyperLIFE dust by at least 0 to 90% or more.

Re: Warning: Crysis 3 Will Melt Your PC, Says Crytek

To be fair, Crytek did do DX11 in Crysis 2 and did release a high res texture pack. Problem was they should of done that in the first place rather than as an afterthought (and the FOV etc..).

Technically they're very capable people but the focus on the console platform introduced so many restrictions the game was heavily compromised (which is a shame because it does have it's moments and we all love being power-suit-rangers) for the PC. I can't see them getting round the 'small level' thing (except if the consoles multi-part load levels and the PC doesn't) or the physics/destructible environment thing (because this will make the game play potentially fundamentally different on the PC platform).

Selling out to consoles last time and the next big step for them is going F2P!

Re: Warning: Crysis 3 Will Melt Your PC, Says Crytek

Looks like I will buy it in a sale when its a £5 to £10 then. By then a card which is not £500 will be able to run it at 1920X1080 settings which look OK,even though games will come out which are more fun, look as good and will need half the hardware to run.

Crytek is more worried it seems to help out AMD and Nvidia then produce a decent game worthy of the hype. DX11 was poorly done in Crysis(I like underground tessellated oceans a lot),the high res textures were rubbish, the AI was rubbish as they switched the aliens to walkers so they could use the same models for humans unlike in the first game. The PC version was just a half arsed affort. Then a bloke in his spare time produces much better looking textures - you cannot even make it up.

The game was somewhat fun,but Crysis was just much more fun. The only area which I thought was really good was the lighting, and the voice acting and sound seemed good.

I suspect I might just look at Aliens: Colonial Marines and Metro:Last Light instead. At least less hype and the games will probably deliver the goods.

Sucker that I am I will probably buy it - but i'll be keeping a close watch on the media they put out to see how well they really support the PC this time around. Long time yet - feb next year - so we shall see..

I will buy it as Crysis 2 ends on a sort of cliffhanger, but I am probably not going to buy it a full price either as I don't think it will be worth it. Hopefully,it will, but I suppose it depends on how much brib..sorry sponsership money AMD and Nvidia put into Crytek.

    Edit!!

I almost forgot, they just skipped past the cliffhanger in Crysis too, with a bit of a lame backstory too.

But that mod is pretty - I did have some textures issues with an earlier version, but it appears to have been fixed.
