Is it just me, or do these not look all that impressive?

Well be the looks of things they have just upped the textures, put shadows in, tweaked the maps a little and introduced ragdoll physics for the bodies.

well surely there using all the same ragdoll stuff and object movement as in hl2? thats why its called cs source using the source from hl2
dabeeeenster they dont actually look that amazing but the maps look so updated and smooth that its enough to make me want to play it at least
its also kinda cool seeing all the maps you get to know so well in next generation graphics
whats this cs beta thing in one of the screenshots? anyone know anything about it?

Source is the name of the new engine that mr gabe newell developed. The reason why it's called CS:Source is because it is Counter-Strike on the Source engine. To me it doesn't look like they've changed the textures at all, i have seen the videos though and they said that they literally took everything from CS and plonked it on the source engine and updated the characters. If you watched the movie the weapons were exactly the same with the same sounds etc.

New features will be everything which is utilised in the source engine, for example:
    - The use of the havok physics engine
    - The new water technique
    - The ability to have high resolution textures
    - It will utilise DX9 effects such as a nice haze
    - Other very small things such as the water will splash and better decals as well as the ability to use huge maps and support more players

It'll be packed full of features but you have to realise that they're happy with CS 1.6 at the moment so they're not going to completely change CS 'cause it's on a new engine

Well they are using more advanced methods to cut down latencies of players over the internet which allows them to support more players. Also with the shift to broadband they probably will suit the multiplayer to the faster internet connections

hmm, it seems if you have condition zero you are allowed to play the cs:source beta... i mean ive got the gcf file downloaded(/ing) through steam (counter-strike source shared content.gcf - bout 360meg?!!) but i have no means to play it - i realise i can extract the files with gcfScape, but cant play it... anyone think its worth paying £12.99 to buy cz (thats from play.com dunno if its cheaper anywhere else??) to play the beta?

20 players per team is too many on dust, its all well and good but there will have to be some new maps...

Perhaps they could do it in a rotating reenforcement kinda way where say u have 15 players on a side, when 5 of them die the other 5 spawn....
