    Doom 3 Opinions?

Its been out for 4 days now, and I haven't really seen any opinions of Doom 3 since its release.
I've heard the odd comment like "Its too dark etc" but I haven't actually played it yet (I'm on holiday )
So whats the game actually like?

[Edit: Yes, thats right, I was too lazy to read all the other replies, a mod can delete this is they want]

    Its average
Nothing groundbreaking apart from nice graphics.
Get torch out, put torch away, shoot monster, get torch out, put torch away, shoot monster......
and the retail release has some nasty bugs, which i dont know how they ever made it past beta testing

well only the multiplayer seems to me to be the main bug, i mean if i ever get on a server it lags like no tomorow, and most usually say enter password or full server, even if i put the filters on :S

S'alright, nice graphics, but just another linear shooter imo. Unimpreseed after playing Far Cry. Still, it's Doom....whadayawant for your money....depth?

Its dark and its not perfect, mind you, nor was Perfect Dark; Goldeneye was though. Both are better than Doom III and so is Far Cry, which is, it must be said, a far cry from a classic itself, still I bet my life Half Life will be better than both by half.

I think Doom III could have been great if they weren't trying to remake Doom. Ended up as a great engine needing a great game to do it justice. Doom gameplay doesn't cut it in 2004, even with 2004 graphics.

Ive not played a great deal of it yet, although the darkness adds to the atmosphere (although you really need to play it in a darkened room, lol). The gameplay is average - overall its quite good but not like the hype suggested, lol.

thing is doom 3 isn't as good as it could of been, but its doom, what do you need, well a huge ass shotgun and some zobies and unload into their faces, if thats what you want thats what you will get. The truth is the engine is unbelievable and its a shame Doom didnt use it as it could, we have Raven making Soldier of Fortune 3 on that engine so keep your eyes peeled for that one

yup i have absolutely no idea how the bigger bugs - eg the sound bug - has got through...I've beta tested quite a few games and i know how hard it is to find the little ones but a bug like the sound cutting out or going crackly is just simple for even the n00best tester....

still i love the game, pure classic doom action, albeit slower paced. If you dont like the original doom you will hate this, however if you do like doom1/2 then you will love it

just dont go comparing it to modern FPS games, its not modern, its retro gaming with a modern engine

In my opinion it's top notch.
I still havent got very far, playing it on veteran first time round with auto-reload off. Playin in the dark with loud 5.1 surround and it

I dont understand why so many are complaining about it? Yes, it's dark in places, but perhaps that is because there is no lights!

Its not Doom 1or2, but it is Doom as Doom was intended to be, if the hardware/skills were available in 1993. I still remember seeing Doom on my old 486 and being blown away. I wasnt blown away with Doom3 but then after 20 years of gaming I dont whether any game could blow me away now

The only thing that could/will improve Doom 3 is AI bot support as in COD and Halo and also multiplayer coop mode (nightmare mode only )
