.... some bargains soon
Interesting...
I would venture to suggest Sony will still sell PS2's though even if they kept their current price structure. They'll probably drop prices too.
Yep, slap in a mod-chip and XBOX Media Center on it and you have the basis of a great little network rig. I almost binned my XBOX a year ago, but XBMC gave it a whole new lease of life. Ditto if you want a little Linux server.

how much is gamecube now?
some great games on that console that wont be ported to pc
mario, zelda, P.N 03 (well i thought pn03 was good when i played it in game lol)
PS2 did drop to the £104.99p mark not sure about the GameCube Index was selling them at £49.99 a while back but that was unofficial. Just had a look Play has them at £77.99p
Does Anyone know if M$ intends to support the X-Box after the Xenon(X-Box 2) is released next year? At a guess Sony will probably continue some support for the PS2 like they did with the PSone just wondering if M$ will do the same.

As for support, my *personal* view is it will be limited once XBOX2 comes along. MS are losing too much money on XBOX1 to drag it's life out too far. Sure, there will still be games coming out for it in 2006/7, but all the really great new stuff will be targetted at XBOX2. And the same goes for PS2/PS3. Sure, you'll get titles, but I don't think the next GT or MGS after this years releases will be aiming for PS2, they'll be PS3 only.

Want a bigger laugh? - have a look on the MS Investor Relations site and read their latest report. Year end to June 30th 2004 shows that the 'Home and Entertainment' Division lost $1,215 *million* dollars. And it's been that way for years now, every single year. Good job the Coporates are still buying Windows/Office licences by the million, or Bill Gates would be broke. :-)Originally Posted by Blub2k

I remember (not 100% sure) reading that originaly the X-Box would have to be on sale at full price for 4 years before it broke even and that was at the release price of £300.
They then got straight in a price war with Sony...
Hence M$ dumping it for a new one, that without a hard dirve will have a bigger profit margin.
Meant to say saw this today so if your unsure wait till the begining of next year....
Industry execs hoping for further price cuts

IDG report shows demand for further hardware price adjustment
A new report based on interviews with key videogames industry executives has called for further price cuts to the Xbox and PS2 ahead of the Christmas sales season, in the hope of "jump starting" sales of software.
The report, which was published this week ahead of the announcement of European price cuts for the Xbox and PS2, was created by IDG Entertainment and used input from over 50 publishers, developers, retailers, investment bankers and analysts.
"Everyone is hoping for price cuts on hardware," according to report editor Wes Nihei, "and [is saying that] the health of the industry is tied to both Microsoft and Sony giving in this year [and cutting prices]."
The report, which is IDG's 12th annual Industry White Paper publication, also addressed concerns over the price erosion of software, which is reducing the size of the full-price sales window dramatically, and discussed the dangers of the increasingly hit-driven industry model.
While much of the content of the report makes sense, it does seem unusual that key executives would be calling for another price cut only a few months after both Microsoft and Sony slashed prices in the USA. However, although expectations for the coming months at US retail are strong, many in the industry feel that the spring cuts were not far-reaching enough, and hope to see additional price changes during the coming quarter.

Try 'Game' shops. They have pretty large second-hand 'bins' these days and I've seen plenty of copies in those.Originally Posted by directhex
