Max Payne 3 came out same time or a week or two later on pc
I love the GTA series, mindless violence and the few situations where you can drive like a crazy man on a mission

Looking good, don't mind waiting for GTA on PC so long as it isn't to long I think 6 months was about the worst. It's invariably better IMO, more horsepower + mods = much better GTA.
Normally, I'd consider myself as a GTA freak (I own every PC GTA there is, some of them several times in different versions), but after the IV disaster... meh.. not really interested so far.
I can already tell you what's going to happen: The damn console guys (I have to hold myself back here.. swearword filter etc.) get it first (as usual, sadly enough these days), and the PC gamers get a half-a$$ed DirectX9 XBOX360 port with no antialiasing whatsoever half a year later that needs at the very least 3 more patches of a couple hundred meg each and another 6 months to be at least halfway playable, with never to be fixed sh!tty performance and the clumsy disgrace of a multiplayer platform attempt called Games for Windows Live as a topping that randomly kicks you out of multiplayer games and then tells you you've been banned from that session whilst lag-racing against your friends so you have to start a new "server" and manually invite them one by one.. just to experience the same crap again a while later or have the game crash on you.. *catches breath* ..
tl;dr: eff it

Sounds like I missed a lot of drama on the IV release then. I picked it up after a couple of patches were out and never touched the MP. I'll probably be picking this up near it's PC release wont be amused if it's like that.
The release version (1.0.0) was basically unplayable if you had any ATI/AMD video card, and even for those that could get the game started, it was a PITA with missing textures and crashes and ridiculously bad performance.
This is the system I was playing with (well.. trying to) back then: http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=600052
On 1280x1024 (19" non-wide) I managed 30 or maybe 35fps on a sunny day. fog? rain? thunderstorms? even just cloudy weather?! <15fps
Texture "pop-in's" were pretty much normal and auto-saving was a must because it locked up / crashed frequently. It also liked to throw nonsensical errors on startup saying that some DirectX function is missing and you need to reinstall or whatever.
With 1.0.3.0, most of the really bad problems were gone, but performance was still abysmal. Unfortunately R* decided to go against the modding community at the same time, blocking you from visiting multiplayer or forcing the "pirated-game-mode" (always-on drunk camera, no control over cars) on you for any little change you did to the game..
The current 1.0.7.0 performs okay-ish and almost all of the above problems are gone, but so is most of the modding community via being locked out by R* .. It would be OK now, if it wasn't for Games for Windows Live (GfWL) updates that introduced weird multiplayer glitchiness and lots of lag spikes (with entire video series on YT based just on the weird/funny/stupid stuff that happens due to the lag)
Don't get me wrong.. I still like playing IV (and EFLC), but I'll never forget the total shipwreck it started out as..
And as GTA V is going to be a effin XBOX360 port again, I definitely don't expect it to start out much better than IV did..
Vote with your wallets people, they will notice sooner or later

Difficult to do, since there won't be anything to vote with wallets about until an unspecified time after the console release.
So we don't buy a console version to tide us over, that's easy enough. But not buying the PC version will just be interpreted as it isn't that popular and will almost justify there treatment of the PC userbase.
They are stuffing us, and apart from making a noise about it on forums there is nothing we can do.

I love Rockstar games, but their pathetic, shoddy PC ports are despicable. I'd rather have them than not, but it makes me hate a company I'd otherwise love.
And after all of that, I'll play the sucker and buy a copy on PS3 and then another when it comes out on PC
That's what I did with IV, got it for 360 on release(the last game I went to a store at midnight to purchase actually), did something unmentionable on PC and then got it for the PC on a steam sale later down the line.
Looking back, that was pretty stupid, and I would encourage everyone to have some patience and wait until the the version for the system you actually want to play it on becomes available.
This time around, X years after the release of IV there will be an even greater disparity between the game you get on the console and the PC version. We now have, from the "average descent" gaming comp, using steam survey, a few "best builds for £X" and a bit of stuff I remember:
Dec 2008:
Intel Q6600 (2.4)
4GB RAM
GeForce 9800GT
October 2012:
Intel i5 2500K (3.3, 3.7turbo)
8GB RAM
GeForce 660
so we check guru3d and compare the GPUs
http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages..._review,2.html
1920x1200 on Far Cry 2 goes from 19 to 99 fps
1920x1200 on COD:MW2 goes from 41 to 148fps
3D Mark Vantage P goes from 6574 to 24402
so we check passmark for q6600 vs i5 2500k
Q6600= 2956
i5 2500K = 6496
Differences between 2008 PS3/360 = Nil
