HL2 Preload Started!

Preload? what does that mean? When I click it on the web site I get a No can do warning box!

then click on the sneak peak for the preload thing on the first page

got a 58meg file downloaded so far, nothing much in it, just some dlls and stuff which looks like its to do with the GUI frontend


oh and myth... you need steam (www.steampowered.com) if you wish to preload (which means it downloads the hl2 game onto your computer - well not all of it) hl2. this means that when you enter your cdkey (which you can either buy through steam, or if you buy the game in the shop) it will download a few more files and allow you to play the game... i hope this is clear, if not go ask on their forums!

depends whats cheaper matey, ive got mine preordered from amazon cos i had a £5 voucher... no-one knows when the release date is tbh either hehe

Ive installed Steam, clicked the link and nothing happens?

right-click on the icon in the system tray, then choose 'monitor' see if its updating stuff.. if its downloading stuff but no game is specified its preloading stuff (as this is what happened when it was preloading cs:s for me)

the point is, you only get those files when you buy the game / they are only distributed when the game is released... also in order to play the game you would have to bypass steam (authorisation etc) and play on non-steam servers... hmm i dont know, i dont think it'll increase warez.
