    Hi guys,

It is with great pleasure that I bring you this news... AUT will be released on September 9th 2004.

Thats right, in order to make the September 10th deadline of MSUC Phase 4
The Akimbo Team will release an open beta of Action Unreal Tournament, lovingly
titled Beta 0. This represents an almost complete release of what we wanted to
achieve for Beta 1 but could not due to time constraints.

    Beta 0 will feature:

    - Mixed Akimbo system. Mix and match any of your favorite weapons to form a deadly arsenal.

    - 8 all new weapons. Try to spray and pray with the machine gun or be precise and use your kung fu.

    - 7 unique items including Action favorites such as laser sights and stealth boots.

    - 6 brand new maps that take you to an astonishing variety of locations from a Private clinic to a seedy bar.

    - 4 new player models representing each side of the law, be an action hero as either a tough agent, a dedicated female cop, an international terrorist or a ruthless oriental killing machine, the choice is yours.

    - 13 original songs that form the Action Original Soundtrack.

    - 4 New game modes. Try to master Action Deathmatch, Action Teamplay, Action Teamplay with Rounds, and Last Man Standing.

    - Bot support for offline fun!

We will be holding a launch party in our IRC channel, #AUT on IRC.GAMESURGE.net from 7PM GMT (2PM EST) onwards and the files will be uploaded and ready for download at 8PM GMT (3PM EST)
with a full list of mirrors.

Beta 0 represents 95% of the content planned for Beta 1 but could not be included if we were to make Phase 4. We have decided to release this beta as it has been over 18 months of hard work to get here and we felt AUT deserved to be given a chance in the competition. Beta 1 will follow shortly and will incorporate feedback from this release, any fixes for any bugs that are discovered and the final elements that missed out on Beta 0.

Keep checking back here throughout the week as I will be showing more AUT media and the above times are subject to change. I wouldn't want you
    to miss any Action time!

    Sweet dreams!

Umm, forgive me, but I'm a new UT player (only got UT2004 a little while ago, is the first in the series I've played). What is Action UT then? A mod? What's it like?

:edit: I should read a little myself!

    About Action Unreal Tournament

Action Unreal Tournament is a modification of Unreal Tournament 2004 that adds realistic weapons, better damage simulation, new gameplay, and bags of action-movie style.

Ever watched a John Woo flick and said 'I wish I could do that' as a guy dived down the stairs, akimbo pistols blazing?

Now you can. And why watch a movie when you can play it?

For those with a history of action games, AUT is the followup to the successful Action Quake2 and Action Half-Life; we hope to continue the tradition of fun gameplay, innovative features and consistent quality. It's based around concepts incorporated into the unreleased version developed for Unreal Tournament.

AUT is going to take the things we've learned from Action Quake 2, Action Half-Life and our development in the Unreal engine and combine them into one fast moving action packed extravaganza.
Anyone know what it's like though? Is it a must have? (I love UT2004 now)

if it's anything like action half life - and absolute classic in the making.
I loved action half life - was a great blast - i personally think it is.

How does this compare to Action Quake? I used to love that mod, haven't played any Action ____ games since though. IMO, it was the second best mod of all time, after QuakeWorld Team Fortress.

have you guys sorted it out yet?
I'm fairly sure it requires the latest retail patch - mine worked first time, so if you're not fully patched, that could be the answer.

    scotty

Aaron - I reckon it's pretty good - dives aren't implemented yet, and the new akimbo system takes a while to get your head around - but it's fast, fun and completely insane - especially the team deathmatch rounds. I think once they get the rest of the handguns and weapons loaded, it will be much better.

I quite enjoyed this mod. Considering this is the first release, it should turn out to be pretty good - new weapons, maps, etc.

And there's nothing quite like holding two shotguns/handcannons and blasting everything that moves
"Well, there was your Uncle Tiberius who died wrapped in cabbage leaves but we assumed that was a freak accident."
