Angry Origin/EA Account Just been hacked

If anyone has an Origin/EA account you's better check it as mine has just been hacked! Received an email notifying me email address had been changed so tried to log in to see what was going on and couldn't. Origin online support is woeful as you need to log in to view help pages etc and of course I couldn't so ended up Googling a support number. Got one for the UK and of course it's closed at this time of night so got a US one & rang it on my company phone.

By the tone of the of the operators voice and looking on the hundreds of Google hits it looks like Origin have a major problem with this atm, probably a leak at their end as I have no viruses etc. Anyways he very quickly sorted things out for me and sent me a password reset, once I'd got into my account and changed my password etc. looking at the new account id and name he'd made it seems those pesky Eastern Europeans are behind things. At least I dont speak Russian to the best of my knowledge!

Anywho if you have an Origin account, do yourself a favour and check it hasn't been hacked and Origin/EA sort your Fing security out and if you have been compromised OWN UP and your users can change their passwords in time!

Re: Origin/EA Account Just been hacked

I'd seen some reports but it seems it really is an issue.

    P/W changed.
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

I disagreee, if you do not have access to historical email address, then your system is not robbust enough. Lucky I sorted it out by finding my cd key through regedit. It clearly is a problem with Origin. Why would i keep an activation code I got off SCAN years ago??? Why don't they have validation emails being sent when you change important imformation like password and email changes, something so simple and obviously difficult for Origin to comprehend

Have you got any of the digital purchase emails, they could have the key in them. Also having those should be some sort of proof of ownership

Re: Origin/EA Account Just been hacked

They do send out emails when your email address is 'successfully' changed etc.

I had my EA account hacked about 2 months ago, with these emails alerted me to the problem.

In attempt to combat the hacker I changed all my passwords for the related accounts twice and completely rebuilt my PC. When it happened a few days after that i suspect EA were compromised some how when the guy at the end of the telephone said "we'll send you an email to reset you password, but the servers that do that are down".

    Oh..

Re: Origin/EA Account Just been hacked

This happened to me the other day. I called up EA and got it sorted.

I think what has happened is that Origin has forced all users with weak passwords to upgrade - that is, they have reset their passwords automatically.

Bloody awful service, even with the best intentions.

Nope mine and hundreds of others had their accounts hacked. When I rang up they looked at my account and some Russian **** was logged into it at the time and they had to log him out so they could give me control back.

Mine was done over recently. Took about 15 minutes on the phone to resolve. Thankfully I still had my physical Dragon Age disc on a shelf
