This statement seems funny to me. More likely the weeds (EA) are choking the healthy competition. Also the smaller developers (IE some of the more creative ones) will fold while bland old EA continue their march of Evil. They are also looking into buying Eidos

    F. F. S.

Like you said its the smaller developers who dont have the pressure of the giant publishers behind them, who get to be really creative and try new and untested ideas.

Publishers these days are only after cashing in on proven franchises, and EA are the worst for it.

Nobody seems to want to take a risk on anything anymore. I bet EA's directors dont even walk on the cracks in the pavement.

ea's directors probably fill the cracks in the pavement in with paper mached 100 dollar bills.

the logic of capital is becoming ever more pervasive within the gaming industry, EA are just the flagship for this process. Look at valve pimpin CZ on the promise of a cs source beta or how they bought over a free mod and started selling it retail nevermind the implications of steam (even if it is user friendly it represents a step backwards in terms of creative freedom)
"The less you eat, drink and buy books; the less you go to the theatre, the dance hall, the public house; the less you think, love, theorise, sing, paint, fence, etc., the more you save – the greater becomes your treasure which neither moths nor rust will devour – your capital. The less you are, the less you express your own life, the more you have, the greater is your alienated life, the greater is the store of your estranged being." Karl Marx

Funnily enough I don't. Don't think many people who own a PC round here have many EA games with an exception to C&C, The Sims or one of their Footie games. I may be wrong, but EA's catalogue seem to be based on dodgy movie Tie-Ins and various unimaginitive cash cows. Its a sorry state of affaris when studios like Black Isle and Looking Glass fold where as EA's bland studios prosper....

Yep, couldn't agree more. I've had most of EA's games over the last 2-3 years on a rental/demo basis, and it's disappointing to see how consistently bland they are - especially when you considered the huge budgets that go into most of them. Now, when I see a game is by EA, I just immediately push it off my purchase radar.

Still, what goes around comes around. People will eventually tire of buying the same old rehash of a game year after year, and at that point EA will hit troubled times. I've seen bigger names than EA come unstuck in the 25 years that I've been playing computer games. Here's hoping. :-)

While i see your point about FIFA (and while i don't actually play it or have it) think about something: A new generation of children is born, grows up and gets a first football game. Or someone who never had a football game before wnats to get one. Would they rather buy something which was out 5 years ago or something with slicker graphics and recent stats (not that i personally would care much about stats). Some gamers would probably get a new FIFA game every other time. It may be cynical to rerelease a similar game over and over but there will be people for whom it will be fairly novel. Plus - how much can you change a game of football beyond some graphical tweaks? They do come up with some new ideas mind.

Think of it this way. A knife is a useful household item. If you bought one you may not need a new one for a long time, as a knife is essentially a knife whether it is new or old. If it wears out or is lost or broken you will want new one. If its made out of better material and has a more comfortable grip - thats even better. But at the same time you might just buy an older version of a knife. Or a spoon.

So while EA are evil, it is not the end of the world.
Tough on mirrors, tough on the causes of mirrors.

So what you are really saying is that EA should come out with a 'knife game'. The Daily Mail would have a field day! :-)

hmm i dont see the problem with EA tbh. without them the CnC series would never have continued, as westwood would have gone the way of looking glass..so any indescretions on EAs part are expemt imho now cos they released Generals
