    2012: My Year in gaming

This is my look back at the games I’ve been playing over 2012 which for me has been more about clearing out games from my backlog then it has about playing new games, though I did manage some more recent games in that selection. There were also a few games that I started again but then other things happened so they ended up being returned to the back burner.

    *** There's a TLDR version at the end ***

I started 2012 thinking about what the sequel to Borderlands would be like and realised that I hadn’t finished the first game, so I crossed that off my list though I haven’t completed all of the DLC, I did finish the main story.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution – Augmented Edition was on offer on Steam so I got that, played through both the game and the additional Missing Link DLC that I bought after completing the game, I thought that it was a great gaming experience, would definitely recommend the game.

Around late March I thought I’d go back through my backlog and realised that I had all of the Crysis games to that point and never actually completed any of them so I went through them in seqeuence playing Crysis, Crysis Warhead and then Crysis 2 in quick succession, which was a lot of fun.

I had stopped playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 by this point but I got two of the DLC packs when Steam had the first two collections on at half price, only to realise why it was that I had stopped playing after getting them. The game itself is great, but the people that play it, unfortunately weren’t, and even with promises of anti-cheat measures, it felt that every time I went online to play I was just up against people that were sniping me from the opposite side of the map and were doing so by shooting through several buildings and walls. Or at least that’s how it looked on the playback when I watched those deaths.

Bought the LA Noire Complete Edition but didn’t really get to play the game, I liked the look of it, but was a bit put off by the performance of the game where I was only getting 30fps.

During this time I went back and finished off both the Half Life 2 episodes, I found Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare on Amazon at a really good price, I think it was about £2 to £5 so I bought that and played through the Campaign mode before I started on Batman Arkham Asylum (again!) as Arkham City had come up on a sale and I was planning on playing these in sequence. But that was interrupted when Just Cause 2 hit the summer sales, along with the Alan Wake Bundle, so between July to September all of my gaming time was split between these titles and I completed the main storyline in Just Cause 2 as well as both the Alan Wake games.

Borderlands 2 launched, along with the Season Pass, I got these on pre-order about 2 hours before the game’s official launch, I bought them through Greenmangaming where I got the game and the Season pass for less than the game on its own through Steam, this was my first experience with Greenmangaming, but I returned to them to buy Dishonored on pre-order as well, using another 25% off coupon.

Some exciting things happened for me during these months, first I was able to get a new motherboard and CPU, and I got the Asus Sabretooth Z77 and an i7 3770K, and was given access to my nephew’s two GTX580 GPUs while he tried out my XFX HD6990 in his rig. I stopped playing Borderlands 2 at this point as I wanted to try a game that made better use of the PhysX features on the 580s, so I picked Mirror’s Edge, a game that I had bought in September 2011 and only played as far as the training mission. This was then followed up with LA Noire, which I played through, along with a few sessions in Just Cause 2 to complete a few more towns and Faction missions.

Right now I’m playing a lot of Saints Row: The Third, have yet to complete my first Assassination in Dishonored though I did get through the training level with zero kills but was spotted once. I also added Sonic Generations, Binary Domain, Sleeping Dogs and Ticket to Ride to my back log and I have yet to decide on whether or not I should get Hitman Absolution as I haven’t finished Blood Money and want to do that first.

    TLDR:
    This year I completed:
    Borderlands
    Deus Ex: Human Revolution
    Crysis, Crysis Warhead, Crysis 2
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (SP Campaign)
Half Life 2: Episode One & Two
Alan Wake & Alan Wake's American Nightmare
    Just Cause 2
    Mirror's Edge
    LA Noire

So that rounds off my year in gaming.

    How was yours?

Re: 2012: My Year in gaming

Well for me my gaming highlights this year were..

F1 2011 - The first F1 game that has really grabbed my attention in years, and was actually playable and enjoyable.

Dishonored - A well thought out game with a good story and quirky style that rewards multiple play throughs.

FarCry 3 - Although I haven't finished it yet (half way through 2nd island) It's one of the few games that I can keep going back to without feeling bored too quickly, and on normal difficulty, it is still a test for a seasoned FPS player.

Syndicate - I was initially looking forward to it, but the more I looked at it the more I was confused how it would in any way resemble the first two games. A few hours play and I still was left wondering what was so great, the answer unfortunately was - nothing.

Uncharted 3 - Despite being released in late 2011 I only managed to get it early this year and played it through almost non-stop. For me, Uncharted is the only game worth buying a PS3 for, and is an exclusive Sony should be very proud of. I can't wait for Naughty Dog's 'The Last Of Us' which is coming early next year.

    And on mobile...

Eufloria HD - A largely unknown game that sees your 'seeds' colonising 'meteors' - Have wasted quite a while on this game after buying it through Humble Bundle.

Osmos HD - in a similar vain to the 'consume and grow' titles such as Flow on PS3, Osmos is really rather addictive and suits a touch-screen well.

Re: 2012: My Year in gaming

I can add Saint's Row the Third to my completed list now, I managed to finish off the story on that one, I didn't realise how close I was to the end and finished it last night, though I do want to play the last level again so I can see the alternative ending.

I wish I completed or even played more games than I buy, hopefully when I set up a new gaming rig I'll play more because I won't be putting up with the stuttering visuals.

Re: 2012: My Year in gaming

Much less impressive for me, I have to say. I started a heck of a lot of games, mainly from Steam sales, decided I didn't like them, and packed them in.

I completed Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, which was alright but still a shadow of the original, C&C3: Tiberium Wars, again a shadow of the older games, and Portal 2, which was excellent, but also a shadow of its predecessor. Skyrim was, I suppose, a big one that I completed this year, but I felt a huge sense of disappointment with it. Mind you, I had exactly the same feeling with Oblivion. I absolutely love it for a little while, and then eventually my character gets too powerful and it's no longer fun. Or my character is too weak, and it's no longer fun. Either way, I always feel like I've been cheated of the game that I ought to be playing.

I finished GRID and GRIT DIRT 2, but only through sheer power of will to get the damn things finished, not out of any dear love. I also finished Crysis Warhead, but that was beyond awful. I'm not really sure why I finished it to be honest, I think I saw it as a challenge. It's also worth noting that for the final time, I wussed out of playing Bioshock, and elected to read the plot synopsis on Wikipedia. Sounds like a cracking game

However, there were a few pleasant surprises into the bargain - Saints Row 3 was surprisingly enjoyable, an excellent purchase in the THQ Humble Bundle, and Tropico 3 was a good laugh, one of the best atmospheres I've seen in a game in a very long time. LIMBO was decent, exactly what it said on the tin, and one of the only indie games I've found engaging enough to pursue right the way through to the end.

Sadly though, 2012 will always be the year that Mass Effect 3 ruined

Re: 2012: My Year in gaming

My completed list this year hasn't been to bad :

Dark Souls - 90 some hours of pain, strife, frustration but I loved it. Took me almost a year to get through it as I bought it day of release, was stuck on Ornstein & Smough for so long. After finally getting past those 2 though managed to work my way through to the end and made quite quick work of it.

Batman AC - Have this on the PS3 also and another I bought day of release. Thing is though I wasn't enjoying it as much as the first game. Decided to get the GOTY from Greenman a few weeks back and played through it to completion. Very enjoyable game and will be going through Harley Quinns revenge in the next few days.

Dishonored - By far my favorite game this year, so many ways to get through it and plenty choices. Storyline and setting was amazing. Can't wait for the story DLC next year.

Borderlands 2 - Also bought the season pass. Clocked up 92 hours on it so far and have done the main campaign and the Scarlett DLC, about halfway through the Torgue campaign. Love the Borderlands franchise, always decent stuff that Gearbox puts out.

Skyrim - Finally finished the main campaign on it after getting it last Christmas. Must admit though thought it may have done something a little extra once you stop the main dragon. Clocked up around 80 hours on it and have made a start on Dawnguard. I have also done all the Companion Quests now and have done the Dark Brotherhood so just getting the radiant stuff from them now. Doing the last bit of the Thieves Guild where you have to restore it to former glory and collect the stones, made a start on Mages Guild but that quest line is quite confusing. I am looking forward to the release of Dragonborn DLC.

Driver San Francisco - Got this for a quid when Ubisoft relaunched UPlay service, played it non stop for a few days through to completion. This game was back to basics for the Driver franchise and they pulled it off nicely.

Sleeping Dogs - Anothet game that is one of my favorites this year. For me the setting and characters were everything. Hoping that the story DLC next year is going to be big and enhance the whole experience.

Fable 3 - Bought it during Steam summer sale, played it non stop through to completion. A lot of the purists didn't like Fable 3 but personally thought it was an enjoyable experience start to finish. Just wish they had released Fable 2 on the PC.

Tomb Raider Underworld - I was on the shelf with this one for a good while, the last decent Tomb Raider game in my eyes was TR4 Last Revelation. I can honestly say though that I played through this one start to finish over a few days after getting it from Gamersgate for coppers, managed to omit looking at a guide also and worked things out.

Dungeon Siege 3 - Bought this with its expansion near the start of the year from a Get Games deal. I thoroughly enjoyed it start to finish (including DLC) and did actually play through it with my gamepad. This game was just so easy to pick up and play for short bursts or long hauls, characters were enjoyable and the world was fun and alive. Don't know why it received so much hate in all fairness from gamers.

All in all finished a fair few titles this year, still loads to be getting on with though, probably missed a few off that list also as I have replayed a few older games.

Re: 2012: My Year in gaming

Edit - Just posted this and realised what a wall of test it is! :s My congratulations if you actually go all the way through it...
So, I won't begin by listing all the games I've bought this year and all the games I had before that... IT would be upsetting. All you need to know is that I probably have all of the main titles from the last few years (and will probably post on here one day my conclusions on the end of Mass Effect 3.. Once I've played Mass Effect 2...) and that I'm an utter weakling for any kind of sale...

To begin with, I've played quite a lot of multiplayer titles this year. Starcraft 2 in particular ended up taking up a lot of my time. Then there was (in descending order of time spent)

League of Legends - fun but I was finding it a little too addictive/distracting. Gave it up after a couple of months
CounterStrike:Global Offensive - the current mp game for me and my friends (and I've now gotten my girlfriend into it too!)
Battlefield 3 - PreOrdered back in 2011, friends were all mega excited about it.... and then we didn't really play any. Poor servers/urgent need for patches right at the beginning put us off for life it seems...

Now, on to the singleplayer stuff. I've not played anywhere near as many games as 2011 - 2011 was my greatest year for gaming thus far! So many great titles to play and it was my first year out of University education - I spent half of the year working full time and the other half just gaming. It was awesome! In 2012, university commitments, friend commitments, girlfriend commitment, family commitments have all conspired to reduce gametiem. (Because clearly, gametiem is the most important out of all those commitments, right?) Still, I've managed to complete a few titles...

Spacemarine - At a D&D weekend with my friends, we got talking about this game. None of us had played it yet and we were all quite intrigued. Low and behold, that weekend it plummeting in price on Amazon so I picked it up, along with a copy for a friend.
It was great. Perhaps the story was a little predictable but... it's Warhammer 40,000! Someone is always going to be tainted by Chaos, right? Gameplay was awesome - the moves, the sound, the way the screen shakes slightly just when you walk all made me believe I was actually playing a hallowed SpaceMarine! The game was long enough to feel satisfying but not so long as to start feeling repetitive, as these kind of games often can do. All in all, a great one!

Legend of Grimrock - I think it was my girlfriend that first played this. As she used to be an avid player of games like Wizardry, I thought she might find it interesting. Soon, we were both addicted to it for a spell. A remarkably pretty game and, despite the 'limitation' of grid based movement, the game play and combat was fun and varied. It's hard though; especially on some of the middle levels combat can be a bi'atch. I went back to the beginning and read up online the best party and skills combos and then pro'd my way through it. I didn't see the ending boss coming and, frankly, I don't think I've ever been so terrified of a boss battle before! It was one of the gaming highlights of this year for me and I hope one day to have the time to start developing my own dungeons for it using the toolkits the developers have made available. Until then, we (my gf in particular) will be awaiting the inevitable remake of Wizardry 8 using the Grimrock toolkits!

Assassin's Creed - I'd heard a lot about the Assassin's Creed series, I figured that, with such a huge back log already, I would never get around to playing them so read all the plot on Wikipedia (fantastic concept and story btw). The first three games were then in a Steam sale and, after buying that, I was awarded a half price voucher for Revelations. I figured that if I'd bought them, I might as well play them... And stop reading the related wiki's!
Let me begin by saying that Assassin's Creed is great - the setting, the premise, the story, the gameplay........ BUT..... My god does it get repetitive by the end! The minigames used to gather information on the assassinations were fun at first... but by the 3rd of 4th assassination, it was starting to get dull. I still rate the game very highly but agree with a friends assessment from when it came out; 'A game with a fantastic concept but sadly limited in scope!' They created this amazing, openly explorable world, where every wall and building can be climbed... and then gave you a repetitive set of tasks to perform!
Again though, I think the premise and story are excellent. Even simple little things like the way your movement is restricted in the game - you can't access a particular area of the city, not just because there's some invisible barrier or the section is mysteriously not there. No, it's because you don't have access to that particular memory yet! This entire thing is happening inside of your own head and memories and this city is nothing more than a fabrication. While the city looks and feels real, the horrible white walls that come up sometimes are humbling reminder that, in fact, it is all a kind of illusion and you are infact being held prisoner by an unknown organisation with nefarious purposes.
I'd certianly recommend it but, frankly, always take the quickest route through each assassination and leave the exploration for when it gets more interesting in AC2..

Trine 2 - It was basically more Trine and that, for me, was all it needed to me. An almost disgustingly pretty game, with the same great game play, more interesting/complex puzzles and a fun story. Definitely recommended.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning - When I first heard that R. A. Salvatore was writing the story line for a videogame, I was excited. When some trailers and demo's of gameplay, I was excited. When I played the first 5-10 hours, I was having the time of my life.... By the end of the game, I just wanted it to be over. I just wanted to finish what I had begun and get on with my life.
The story of Reckoning is a fun one. The voice acting is better than some games but inevitably has moments when you lose the immersion and are reminded you're playing a videogame. The gameplay is... well, it's *essentially* what I would term an 'Action RPG.' You run around and kill things for 95% of the game. Most quests will involve you killing things. As you kill things you get better weapons and armour, gain experience and levels, upgrade skills etc. (I know that probably describes a lot of RPG but, for example, there's a lot more to Dragon Age:Origins than running around and killing things and grinding for loot!) There are three different skill trees; essentially Mage, Warrior and Thief, each with appropriate skills. And almost all of them are fun to use. The game is very bright and colourful. It has a slightly cartoony style but it still looks great. When you throw out a fireball, or punch your fist into the ground to make huge spikes emerge under your enemies and toss them into the air, it looks great... But not on the hundredth time you've done it... for each of the action skills you have. By that point, about 20hrs into the game, I was desperate for more skills, for more things to do in combat, more varied abilities. Anything! Anything to break out of the monotony.
Perhaps it's my own fault. I am a (95%) completionist - I want to go everywhere and do everything and see everything. Kill every enemy, complete every quest. I draw the line sometimes - for instance in AC2 I would go around and collect all the treasures, find all the viewpoints, complete all the assassination missions.... but I would hint endless around for those feathers! Still, it's the reason why games like Fallout, the Elder Scrolls series just cripple me and, as much as I loved Skyrim (I played that at the beginning of the year but I don't want to talk about it too much... I logged 50hrs and reached the point of no return, when I realised I was becoming hopelessly addicted to a game that I loved. I had to turn back for the sake of my PhD. I haven't played it in almost 11months)
The problem is though, being a completionist requires the game to *not* be monotoneous and to *not* bore me within 20hrs. Which Reckoning did! For various reasons to do with obsessive behaviour and procrastination, I refused to just let it go and followed it through to the very end. There were some excellent moments in that game and perhaps if I'd played through just the main story and maybe 50% of the side quests, I'd be okay. But I didn't and now, I couldn't go back to it.

Metro 2033 - I'd started this a couple of times in the last few years but never got further than the first couple if missions - other things distracted me. Finally, over about four or five days, I finally sat down and played it through. I loved it. It reminded me of everything I loved about the STALKER games (dreary, post-apocalyptic setting, eastern european accents etc.) and stuck it in what is still a very, very graphically beautiful game. It's been criticised for being a 'shooter on train tracks' but, frankly, I didn't care. The train I was on was taking me somewhere awesome and I could see enough of the scenary through the windows to get an idea for what the wider world looks like! Tbh, most shooters are pretty linear - there is ultimately a place you have to be at the end of a level, a thing you have to do, kill etc. You just get a bit more openess before that to give you the illusion of choice. Metro 2033 doesn't even try to do that - it always shows you exactly what there is to do and how you're going to get there and, frankly, that's fine by me! So don't be turned off by some of the negative reviews - this really is one to look at!

Borderlands - I think I missed the fun in Borderlands. I played it through to the end. I enjoyed some parts of it particularly. To me though, it ended up being a 'grindy' shooting game. Again, my need to complete every sidequest, explore every region probably didn't help, especially when new quests would require you to go back to a region you've already been back to three or four times before (made worse by me guessing in advance that that thing there was something that could be interacted with, it's just I need to get a job/quest in order to unlock that interactivity!) I got bored, but still ended up going to the very end. Perhaps it would have been more fun with more players. Borderlands 2 has been purchased by myself and my gaming friends - perhaps I'll find out then!

Halo 4 - I could gush about Halo for ages... Played the first one on PC and a few snippets of 2 and 3 on a friends xbox. Got into the lore and the universe of the games since then. Since finally buying an xbox in November with Halo 4 bundled in, I've come to love it even more. Simply, Halo 4 was a great game with a fantastic story and you should play it!

Assassin's Creed 2 - Pretty much everything I would say about AC1 minus the dull, repetitivity. On that side, AC2 nailed it. The cities and different assassinations were fresh and interesting. All the mindlessly repetitive tasks from AC1 were now optional. More importantly, the addition of a home base that you can build up gave a reason to gring those treasure chests and assassinations - gold for city improvements, better weapons and armour etc. The new sidequest, the assassins tombs and templar strongholds were a fun addition. The progression of the character was great also. I started off not particularly liking Ezio - I thought he was a bit of a spoiled brat! Then again, he was really! The events of the next few hours changed him though and over the course of the whole game, I warmed to him considerably.
The increased interactivity with your external team was also welcome - the history of the places and people you meet in Italy and especially the little videos briefing you on your assassination targets were great. The added 'The Truth' puzzles were occasionally fiendishly difficult and the video unlock at the end added to the mystery of the series, with some finaly answers at the end.
This game has many, many more pluses than negatives. I felt a slight disconnectedness from the story - there were times when I didn't understand why I was doing what I was doing but I did have several inforced breaks while playing this one through, so perhaps it was a disconnectedness of my own creation. Nevertheless, this was the best in the AC series so far... I look forward to the next three!

And.... that's it for 2012. Like I said, I still have a huge back log of games! In the immediate future, I intend to play through The Witcher 2, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Borderlands 2 and then some more AC. Mass effect I'm saving for a less busy time (likely post conferences in April) when I can go through both remaining title with some dedication. But then again, with so many great titles set to come out in 2013, who knows what I'll end up playing....

I was looking forward to this game and ended up getting Deus Ex: Human Revolution instead, do you really think that the game is that bad?

I really loved all of the AC games, and I think Brotherhood was the game I liked the most, but I have yet to play Revelations and I won't be buying AC3 until I've completed Revelations, I'm also a bit confused about why the fifth game in the series is called Assassin's Creed III.

I think that's because the main novelty in the first game had worn out, even with the new ideas, it was still a great game.

That's the reason I've never actually completed Oblivion, so when Skyrim came out I sort of wanted it but also realised that I'd be in that position where I might not like it for very long.

The repetitive side was more of an issue in the first game, the second game was more refined and offered a different approach while Brotherhood added some completely new elements once again, if you haven't been through 2 and Brotherhood, then you are in for a real treat when you do. Both are awesome games, and I think Brotherhood is the best of the three, but I haven't played through Revelations yet.

Ah, so you did complete AC2, I didn't get all of the feathers, I'm still considering using a guide or something to do this, but to tell the truth, the story if over, I have all the shops and upgraded them, I've bought everything I can buy as well so not sure I really want to get all of the collectibles. I think I would rather do the extra side quests in Brotherhood instead.

So I should keep this in my B list, I keep putting it off as there are other games I want to play before this one.

I agree, I did find it got to be a bit of a grind which is why I got so far and then decided to just concentrate on the main game, ignoring side quests and DLC.

It's a much better game, even as a sinlge player game, things like fast travel options take the grind out of playing the game.

I think it's because AC2, Brotherhood and Revelations are all based around Ezio, and therefore considered part of the same arc. A bit like how GTA3, Vice City and San Andreas all take place in the same universe (e.g. Claude appears in both GTA3 and SA), and then GTA:IV is a totally new one.

I think that's because the main novelty in the first game had worn out, even with the new ideas, it was still a great game.
Yeah, inclined to agree. With something so breathtakingly new, you're never going to get back to the original sensation of novelty. To me though, GLaDOS was such a good character and that element was lost in the second game.

I have a friend that's trying to convince me to play through all three ME games, and for some reason I can't bring myself round to want to play them, given the disappointing end to the trilogy are you saying that I shouldn't bother at all, stop at the second or play all three but be prepared to be unhappy about the ending?
This is what I thought about ME2 at the time, if you want my full thoughts: http://hexus.net/gaming/reviews/pc/2...s-effect-2-pc/

In short, I absolutely loved the ME series. And I still think that ME1 and ME2 together are amongst the best series I've ever played. The ending of ME2 is absolutely sublime. And ME3 isn't a bad game, all things considered, it's just didn't do what the storyline had promised in terms of tying everything together.

I would say to anyone who hasn't tried them, that you absolutely have to play the first two, irrespective of the third. They're brilliant in their own right. However, knowing that the storyline doesn't tie together properly at the end does take a bit of the shine off it, and they probably lose a bit when you have that gnawing away in the back of your mind. ME3 is a fantastic experience as well, the process up to the end is extremely enjoyable and you feel at times like you're changing history, it's just that when you're really pepped up for something breathtaking, it can feel a little lacklustre.

There are people out there who think that the ending was acceptable, and it probably was - what you have to bear in mind is that ME fans (myself included) became so hyped up about it that it didn't take much to disappoint. With that in mind, it probably wouldn't bother you half as much, as you wouldn't go into it with such expectation.

I know exactly what you mean about these two, and you're probably right. I'm a step ahead of you by the looks of it, having played Brotherhood, and I think that perhaps shapes my views a bit, along with having read and seen reviews of Revelations and AC3.

The first one was absolutely frustrating, although I often forget how annoying it got. Climbing to the top of the 55th tower, helping the 14th beggar, overhearing the 8th conversation, or whatever the hell you did was really irritating. But, having said that, every part led to a crescendo, and every crescendo gave you a lot of flexibility.

As the series goes on, it seems to give you a more and more open world, with more and more gadgets, and then railroads you down narrower and narrower paths until there's virtually no freedom at all. Which is a bizarre contrast.

To my understanding, AC3 is the worst of the lot in that regard, and Brotherhood certainly irritated me. There's something very satisfying about giving me a city and saying "Kill that man", and then seeing if I can do it in such a way that nobody notices, or that they do, but I've got a brilliant escape route lined up.

Having me go through a narrow corridor, leaping between ridiculously convenient bars going across the room, doesn't feel nearly as impressive. And getting the flying contraption in AC2 (I think) was really cool, felt like a crazy but very fun addition. By the end of Brotherhood's nonsense, it all just feels contrived and tiresome.

In short, I get what you're saying, absolutely. And AC2 probably was better than AC1 in terms of having more structure and less timewasting, but I think the series has gone too far in the direction you mention, and gone past improving it - into worsening it.

Re: 2012: My Year in gaming

I would say play Arkham Asylum first off as it gives a bit of back story to the characters and also introduces you to the gadgets (you start with most of them in AC), not essential but its a damned fine game. AC does make a few references to events that happened previously, for example one scene with Bane makes reference to the Batmobile launching off the asylum island.

Dishonored already has the trials DLC, they are holding off on doing story DLC immediately so they can get it right. Rumours have it that this story DLC is going to be about Daud and his assassin group. Have to wait and see with that one though, either way look out for it when it lands as its going to be a worthwhile addition to the world created.

Sleeping Dogs or Dishonored - DON'T MAKE ME CHOOSE!!! They are both great games in their own right but they are so far apart. I think I can honestly say I would go with Dishonored if I must with it being a new setting and I.P. Thing is though, Sleeping Dogs just does everything right, I am so pleased that Square Enix picked up United Front and True Crime Hong Kong, at least the I.P will survive with the new publisher. I hope Activision are kicking themselves for cancelling this one! At the same time though United Front were allowed to create their vision so the game evolved and worked out so much better for them. I loved the setting on both of the games but I am a sucker for Steampunk type stuff and did enjoy the Dishonored story a lot more, Sleeping Dogs there are a few loose ends and no doubt we will see a sequel long term where it will be finished off properly, you are left wanting more once all is said and done.

I have bought Zodiac Tournament and Nightmare on North Point for it which were both pretty short unfortunately but they are just fillers until we get some decent story stuff which I believe is coming early next year.

Re: 2012: My Year in gaming

To add to my completed list :

Splinter Cell Conviction, purchased during the last Steam Winter Sale, finished playing it around April this year after I got the wireless adapter for my 360 controller. Made the game a bit easier to play I personally thought.

Rainbow Six Vegas 2 : Finally after 4 years I managed to get through this one. Had it on my 360 before it red ringed and lost a save, then I was loaned it on PS3 to not manage to get through it due to work commitments. So I decided to grab it last week think it was in the Steam Tom Clancy sale. So I have now finally got through this game. Awesome game and thoroughly enjoyed it but at times it was just plain frustrating. Bits like the rec center having to scale the rock climbing walls, you can't see any enemies left so you double check with thermal scan, all clear, climb up and as soon as you clamber back onto walkway shot comes out and dead instantly....go figure. Then Act 6 where you are alone, no thermal scan available and getting shot to pieces by guys that are hid in the most obscure places and hitting you through the smallest of gaps in the scenery with deadly precision. Finally your 2 team mates just suddenly freezing in a pose and not doing anything so having to restart the game! Either way, I did still enjoy it and finally managed to finish it off after way to long!

Wonder what else I could possibly get through that is near the end and hasn't been played in months before 2012 runs out!

Ferral gave me/gifted me lots of games on Steam... lots. And I cant' even find the time to play them all

But.. in order of play time

Sol Survivor: THE best turret defense game in creation. It's awesome. I've played over 90 hours and it's awesome. Just buy it. It's awesome. Ferral is a god for gifting me this one, I'd NEVER have played it otherwise.

CoD W@W: still THE best online game IF you find the right server. And I have. Tumble liked it so much he's now an Admin on there. (10th Tactical)Have owned this game for ... er.. 4 years i think. I love it.

First Templar: well worth the play. Got stuck near the end.. never finished off the boss... gave up.

Mount and Blade Warband: Really suprised by this game. Keep going back. It's got combat, 3d strat on fairly large maps.. trading... dealing... it's immense and I like it.

King Arthur: real time strat .. big.. very pretty... too hard for me.. got my arse handed to me over n over. Gave up. Worth playing though if you like RTS games.

Tiny Big Bang Story: played with my lad... very very good. Calming, quite tricky in places. Sheer genius for mouse skills for little people and yet hard enough to be worth he and I playing together. Really gratefull to Ferral for suggesting this one.

RAGE: just started it... tbh.. it's decidely average and not got time spare to lose on this one. Shame... should have been genius. Isn't.

I'd love to hear more about this one, I have a five year old boy, would he like it, do you think? Any chance you could give us a mini review?

    My 2012

RESIDENT EVIL OPERATION RACCOON CITY - Junk
    RESIDENT EVIL 6 - Superb
ASSASSINS CREED 3 - Meh , QTE ruined it
RAPTOR - Tried playing this old school game which was once my favourite, I sucked on Elite mode
    NFS THE RUN - Junk
ACE COMBAT SKIES OF LIBERATION - Bought an XBOX360 just to play this. Superb
HALF-LIFE BLACK MESA - Meh, didnt like it
    FORCE UNLEASHED 2 - Junk
    BATMAN ARKHAM CITY - Junk
DEAD SPACE 2 - Meh, not as exciting as DEAD SPACE 1
HALO 3 - Bought an XBOX360 just to play this. Superb
SSX 3 - Superb, too bad I suck horribly as I can't link combos
HALO REACH - Bought an XBOX360 just to play this. Superb
SYNDICATE - Superb. A game that I finally enjoyed playing !
    UNCHARTED 2 - Superb.
    NINJA GAIDEN 3 - Junk
    UNCHARTED 3 - Superb
    VANQUISH - Superb

I disagree with anyone who says that AC1 was crap. Altair was a assassin and you assassinated in the game. Ezio was not as badass as Altair and there was too much side missions, assassin sending missions, city development .. bah. Ezio seemed very weak compared to Altair. If you did not enjoy AC1, it is because you did not know how to play it. Did you climb all the towers and used eagle vision to increase your map size ?
