    Doom 3 sound crackling?

Just got Doom 3 installed on my system.

It's an XP3200, Radeon 9800 pro, 1gb ram, soundstorm sound.

After a few minutes (sometimes just a few, sometimes about 15) the sound quality goes awful and starts to crackle continously which ruins the game. I have to exit and start again to get rid of it.

Anybody else experience this? My motherboard is the one in my Shuttle SN41G2.

Disable surround sound in the audio tab.

    or dont....

disabling surround sound makes the sound go all crap

while we wait for ID to fix this really annoying bug, heres a work around.

add this line to your doom3 config file (in X:\program files\doom3\base)

    bind "x" "s_restart"

now whenever the sound goes fubar just press that and its fixed

I get it intermittently (SN41G2 with onboard sound), and go into the sound options and disable & re-enable the surround sound to kick start the sound engine again.
On average, every 30 minutes or so of playing, I would guess.

Very annoying, one of a couple of niggly annoyances with the game

Thanks guys, I'll bind a key to that quick fix. It actually does it with Far Cry sometimes but it's a lot rarer with that game.

How hot does everyone's Shuttle get when playing this? My CPU is 62, MB 48, Power 58, HD 50!

Am I gonna end up cooking this thing?

Although those are fairly though, your EQ tolerances will more than likely be allot higher.

Cooler would be better, but those temps should not be much of a problem for you.
