Should I continue Assassins Creed series? (NO Spoilers please :()

Hi all, was excited to hear about Assassins creed 3 and got bought Assassins creed 2 for Christmas, played it and Brotherhood and was attached with the amazing storyline and gameplay.

Was excited to get onto Relevations and it has killed it for me, it's disappointing, unlike the previous games its totally different, the graphics and gameplay is a bit... "cheesy", only playing it for the storyline.

So basically, any comments. Does the storyline get good enough like AC2s was? And is it worth getting AC3 or should I give up on this series.

Thanks for any comments, no spoilers on Relevations please

Should I save my money on better games or does the story head in a better direction

Bit subjective but I thought AC3 was much better than Revelations. Rev was retreading old ground a bit to much, 3 moves it on.

Revelations is really just dragging out Ezio's story far longer than it needed to be... but it does provide for interesting and salient points in the overall plot of the series.

Re: Should I continue Assassins Creed series? (NO Spoilers please :()

I just feel that AC2 and Brotherhood was more "old time assassins" whereas Relevations feels like "Grand Theft Auto with a twist" type of gameplay if you know what I mean. I felt AC2 to flow smoothly.

And I think the characters looked better with a good storyline.

Does AC3 provide that type of feeling? Is it more Relevations or AC2 in that respect?

I do like the whole Desmond story thing, that's what ruined the feel for me so far in Relevations.

As long as the actual story is still compelling as it was.

    You haven't played AC1 ?
AC1 was where things began and the main character was a badass. Be sure to play it.

AC Revelations was just for the purpose of finishing up the long story, as to what happened to Ezio and Altair. How they lived out their last remaining days.

AC3 was a huge dissapointment... do not buy it until it is £10! It is along similar lines to Revelations!

Btw, make sure to play all the AC games on PC and not on console. The difference is noticeable and PC graphics in the game are much much better.

Re: Should I continue Assassins Creed series? (NO Spoilers please :()

No I missed AC1 haha. That good to play? It's the whole story and characters I like. I'll be sure to pick that up then Altair looks awesome though.

AC Relevations is just the finishing story to their lives then, well I may as well play that till the end and go back to AC1 and give that a go. I was excited after AC Brotherhoods ending so a shame its gone down hill.

As to AC3, you think it's similar to Relevations? Eek that's a slight put off. I will give it a wait when its cheap just to finish the story then maybe.

I have them all on PC, I don't own new consoles

    Thanks for comments! Helpful!

Re: Should I continue Assassins Creed series? (NO Spoilers please :()

I would have to agree with a few people here. I got my brother to buy me AC3 and then got a free copy with a magazine subscription for my mum. The games are an easy platinum because they take so little time or effort. Being from the UK I think there's obviously going to be abit of hate toward a character going around killing Brits left right and centre. My mum got annoyed when I slashed at "the nice Scot in his kilt".

The storyline in AC3 was rather poor as *without spoilers* the current day story didn't seem that poignant and the past character who you relive lacked personal drive and seemed to just do what others were telling him. By the end I didn't care about him at all and wouldn't have cared if he lived or if he died.

I would rent this from the library for £2.20 or so for a week. You should be able to complete the main story in that time. Unless you can find a cheap deal on it although it's going on ebay for about £19 already.
Sorry didn't see you were on PC - definitely wait until a good online deal appears then but you might have to shop around or subscribe to a deals group on steam or something.

Also... I only played the multiplayer enough to get the trophies but it seemed like the previous one and it could get very repetitive pretty quickly.

mike001, AC1 is all serious. Altair comes from a family of assassins. He was trained to be an assassin since he was little, so he was always destined to be an assassin. Ezio meanwhile became an assassin after his parents were killed. Plus, Altair has more attack combo moves than Ezio.

Don't expect bedding girls, flirting or the casual chit-chat that Ezio does or the city real estate management or the sending of junior assassins on missions.

    Here's a trailer :

Re: Should I continue Assassins Creed series? (NO Spoilers please :()

If you are planning on playing the series go through AC1 first off before AC Revelations.

AC2 and Brotherhood are the highlights of the series in the first 4 games.

The first game you play as Altair and have the little bits with Desmond, you find out about the Templars and also the Assassins. Revelations is a sequel to both Ezio and also Altairs story. Revelations also finishes off the stories of Ezio and Altair, hence why you need to get through the first game. You play a few bits with Altair so you actually find out what happened to him. It is enjoyable, story is a bit strange but its still a decent game in the franchise.

Re: Should I continue Assassins Creed series? (NO Spoilers please :()

Mepbowles: Ah I don't think I mind the killing bit but if you are saying the story was a bit naff then I can see myself losing interest. The thing about AC2 was yes even though the fighting part was amazing the towns were easy and fun to move around, while the cut scenes with Desmond and Ezio were up front and in depth so it kept your interest. But if you are saying Connor's story isn't as compelling then ahh. I may try and get it for cheap, by the sounds of it it definitely isn't worth £10+.

As for multiplayer I actually never played it on AC2B, I think that would spoil it for me, repetition ruins doesn't it

OilSheikh: That trailer does look good, I don't mind if he's not like Ezio its the characters self and story that interests me. And I am surprised he has more attack combos than Ezio, be cool to see how to game plays. Considering it's going to have a more "AC2 feel" to it.

City real estate management, haha, nice description

    Ferral:
Ah, so I will put Relevations on hold for a bit then before it ruins the story with Altair
But the story behind the Templers and Assassins is what I am like "eh" about, so I take it I kind of missed the huge storyline to Assassins creed altogether

Thanks for the comments everyone, I didn't even think about AC1 and now I know I should get it.

It is in my basket and should arrive soon Then I will get onto Relevations (I only just got into it so I am not really into the story yet).

    Thanks everyone!

    Which game?

The first one if you do all the side missions as well as all the high points (Sync to uncover map) it will take you about 16 hours. If you collect all the flags and kill all the Templars you could probably add another few hours. I didn't get all the flags or kill all the Templars on my play through.

Revelations I finished a few minutes before my first post in this thread. I done a fair bit buying businesses, med defence and spent around 30 hours I would say.

AC2 I got Platinum on it on PS3, probably around 35 hours I reckon.

AC1, I am on Memory 3 of that sorry

AC2 and Brotherhood did take me ages, got 100% sync on Brotherhood, really enjoyed that one.

I want to just get through AC1 for the storyline, not bothered about the flags etc

30 hours for Revelations? Wow that's a lot. Apparently it's got the best storyline though?

Re: Should I continue Assassins Creed series? (NO Spoilers please :()

If you literally just do the story assassination missions on the first game and forget about everything else you could probably clear it in about 10 hours. If my mind serves me right there are 3 kills in each city. Then there is the final confrontation.

I think a lot of the time with me is the way I play. First thing I do is all the vantage points available on the map. Then I tend to do the small side missions and start buying the shops and then finally mix in the story missions as I go. I tend to absorb the AC content and love the writing.

On Revelations (the other games also actually) I don't care much about the Desmond stuff. I prefer the stories of the ingame characters. I loved seeing what went down with Altair after the events of the first game, found it quite touching the decision he made. Follow Ezio and Altair stories and forget about Desmond!!

I also watched Ember this afternoon (20 minute CG short) to see what came of Ezio after the events. It was a absolutely stunning and fitting end to his story arc and confirmed thoughts you have after revelations.
