So, wotcha make of Bioshock Infinite?

    no spoilers please....

So i'm a couple of hours in and not sure what to make of it. It looks nice and plays okay, and the storyline has some sort of epic feel about it. The story goes from being really good to really awful. Already a lot of wandering about fairly pointlessly shooting stuff to a backdrop of confederates are bad. i can't help feeling a iot is all a bit glitzy somehow and that under the serious -message- it is a fairly one dimensional shooter. All this fine scenery / period costumes you basically can't interact with. Gameplay is fairly similar to original Bioshock, but somehow the enemies seem dumber - maybe cos they're not meant to be dumb splicers. And the stealth aspects of original Bioshock have gone - this is a straight first person shooter.

I'll probably keep playing - it is a good FPS and I'm curious how it ends. But it just feels contrived somehow - too much showy stuff you can't interact with so it is basically Wolfenstein with nicer graphics and a quirky sidekick.

Oh and no proper saves, just stupid console-ised autosaves.

    So far, 7/10

I loved the 2 previous Bioshock titles, this one doesn't fill me with the same excitement as they did.

Will see how the reviews look.

You really need to make sure you explore the areas properly. Some of the areas can be hidden too. There is a lot added to the backstory that way,via the voice recorders, the video devices, and also the conversations by NPCs too. You also will have a better chance of getting clothing upgrades and new Vigors.

Anyway,it is better to make a judgement of a game once you have finished it.

For the PC version Metacritic score is 96% and the average user score on the same site is 9.1 too after 800 submissions.

    Edit!!

Also, listen to the music played during the game!!

    Second Edit!!

Also, make sure you wait for the full credits to finish at end.

I'm loving this game. I think that it is a credit to it that I was slightly disappointed when the action started! I was pretty happy wandering around listening to peoples' conversations and what not. I especially liked the barber shop quartet playing the beach boys. I'm also finding it a bit more accessible than bioshock, maybe because it's less dark. not in the tone, just actually less darkness. Still plenty of good dark moments though.

I'm only part way into this (just escaped with Elizabeth), but I'm really enjoying it so far. The environment and epic-ness of the scenery is amazing! Can't wait to keep going and finish it.

Re: So, wotcha make of Bioshock Infinite?

Have completed it now and glad to say it does get better towards the end story-wise. I think the Elizabeth 'sidekick' was what made the game good and distracts you from the fact it is at core a very linear non-interactive basic shooter.

Re: So, wotcha make of Bioshock Infinite?

Is it still of a similar horror-ish genre, as compared to the first game? The setting doesn't seem very conducive towards that from the screenshots I've seen so far.

No. The creepyness of the first game is gone.

Re: So, wotcha make of Bioshock Infinite?

I have to agree Bioshock Infinite isn't as creepy as the first game although one particular part of the game made me jump out my seat, the story is great you really do need to listen to most of the voxophones to fully understand the story in my opinion and they also add quite a bit of detail to Columbia. Elizabeth was done really well, enjoyed an AI taking care of me for once rather than the other way round, it does get a bit repetitive in the middle although pick right back up near the end.

Re: So, wotcha make of Bioshock Infinite?

The detail makes the game. Columbia is just as messed up as rapture, just in a much more discrete way. The game play is fine, and it doesn't play like a huge escort mission.

The story is engaging, Elizabeths character is good, I really started to feel for her.

It's my favourite game of 2013 so far. I enjoyed it more than Tomb Raider.

Re: So, wotcha make of Bioshock Infinite?

Loved it. I just found it compelling. It was so UN creepy that I just knew that there was some good subtext under the obvious utopian setting. Definitely a different beast to the first Bioshock, and I found myself just using one or two vigors. Personally the combat was fine, but I played it for the narrative. Definitely fave game so far this year, though on the otherside of the scale, Crysis 3 is great just because it's solo goddam pretty :-)

I've played about 60 minutes of it so far and it looks and plays great. I haven't played the first two in the series yet though, so I'm installing them and gonna have a playthrough before delving into infinite
