What kind of DESK do you game on,.....

....and HOW DO YOU LIGHT IT?

I am having a nightmare ......Deckard got me a funky Logitech keyboard.....but its BLACK.

So lights out....I cant see anything

I have just started looking into under dek lighting again....I used to have an old MFI PC desk.....and I had a low voltage strip light under the monitor stand and it downlit my keyboard...

think I might need one of those again.

What....and WHERE do you GAME? Doyou have lights on, and if so...whats the ideal position.

Best for me at mo.....turn on Hallway landing light, and shut the door, and a bit come in through the top window....if its a game where I know the keys by memory.....ie UT and Q3.....then on with the Lava lamp

Since I'm based in the loft and have a badly placed crossbeam, everything is on the floor!

The monitor sits on a stand and I sit on the floor against the chimney. I guess you need pics to appreciate it!

I get the same problem with my black keyboard Zak - My solution is a little USB light with 3 ultrabright white LEDs that lights my keys up nicely

Nah, the bedroom is on the floor below.

Cos I'm a fussy beggar, I didn't want my 4 speakers to be close to one another in my bedroom, so since the loft wasn't being used and was bored over.. bit of carpet later and some power points and it's useable.

It gets a bit hot in summar though, hence the ducting leading to the airbrick in the wall - no windows. Likewise it's freezing in winter. Hehe!

Still, it sounds great up there (loads of carpet makes for a very dead sound), so with the lights off, 21" monitor up close to ya face, it makes for great atmos.

If it's dark, I flick my light switch into the on position.. Why do you work in the dark anyway? It's not good for your eyes

Got me one of those purpose built puter tables... which of course is useless for gaming as there's no room for the box and my monitor, speakers etc etc.

On the arrivla of my X45 flightstick out came the drill and saw and I modded the roll out keyboard shelf so its half as deep again, added two shelves to the base for the box and to store my stick then ran the wiring for everything neatly down the back of the tubular steel legs. Looks great but a right bummer to disconnect everything for a LAN.

As for lighting, Zak, go buy a dimmer switch! They're only £1.99, takes two seconds to wire into the existing socket and then you can have the lighting just bright enough to see the keys but still plenty dim enough to get the best outta the TFT.

I thought it was a fact that you can damage your eyes by looking at a screen with no ambient light around you :S

playing on the computer in the dark seems abit stupid too me... not only for the damage it can do to ya eyes but why do ya need to anyway? i just use a Lamp thats on my wall behind my shoulder then dim the main lights down (as someones already mentioned) its mostly important to have light shining on the monitor than light shining from behind/Above the monitor.. apart from that the keyboard is always easy to see so no probs since i never look at the keyboard anyways
