Steam question...

I'm reformatting my PC, can I just move the entire contents of the Steam directory over to the new hard drive? I've just downloaded all the HL2 content etc so.....

the .gcf files can be transferred without worry - reinstall steam, to keep the registry intact, quit, move the gcf files to the steamapps folder, then relaunch - tada.
