Why don't you get the full package

why can't we be given a full game with all downloadable content available?
If we pay full price for a game surely you should get all of it. Like for example gta 4 then liberty city then Ballard of gay Toni so on and so forth

There was another case with street fighter vs tekken an announcement was made that they wouldn't have any dl content and then later they did. Or was it another capcom game?
Don't get me wrong I love them but why rip off the loyal fans
I suppose same applied with music artists with another version a few months later with a few more tracks and better cover

Then they will be a full version released well in these cases I can only wait until the full versions are released but I think it's just unfair on those paying

It's business, giving us everything for one price isnt logical when we will buy the add on for real money

If you want the full package wait until the game is pretty old and then they re-release it with all the DLC included.

DLC is where they make their money, I think.
Eg. Even if you pirate say an xbox360 game, you still have to pay for online passes or DLC

In short - "It's the stupid, sucky way the money-hungry games industry milks you for all your money. Games nowadays are designed with DLC built in, because people WILL pay that £10 on top of the starting £39.99 just to get a machine gun of +2 ammo capacity or whatever. Most will have spin-offs or sub-chapters also factored in".

This from a dev at a well-known studio.

Re: Why don't you get the full package

It's an alternative to hundreds of people losing their jobs.

Game development has two properties - it needs different number of different types of people at different stages of the game's development, and everyone has nothing to do once the game is almost done (i.e. a build handed to MS/Sony/whomever for final approval)

Staggered DLC releases mean the length of time over which an employee, say a level designer, can be used, lengthens - there needs to be a "stop adding things, just fix bugs" stage or a game will never ship, so what happens to the guys whose job it is to add things? They split off into a DLC team, and work on that, whilst at the same time the programmers are doing polishing & waiting for final approval on a build of the original game. By the time the original game goes gold, the DLC team now needs programmer intervention - and those guys happen to now be free to help them. And so the cycle continues.

Having a lot of different original games on the go sounds better - but modern games are so expensive nobody can afford to work on many at a time
