    Splinter Cell Blacklist

Have any of you guys played this yet? I was unsure whether to buy it as I hadn't been impressed by the last one. I've been playing these games since the first one and prefer the original style of the game (The way it played in the first few games). But after some reviewers that I generally trust said good things about it, I gave it a go. Have played it for a couple of days so far. I think it's actually a really decent game when played on the perfectionist difficulty, and aiming for the Ghost or Panther styles. Finally, a decent return to the stealth genre If you liked the older SC games, I think you will dig this one if played on the right difficulty setting!

There is something that confuses me about it though. Does it make any difference if you hold off on launching a mission? There's this one main mission I'm on, think it's the third one. Every time, Grim says that we don't have enough time to prep. So I keep delaying the mission to give her more time. I've done 2 of the side missions now, trying to buy more time. I've come back to check after each one and she still says the same thing! Does anyone have any idea what difference it makes if I just launch the mission anyway? Or what I have to do to allow the proper time to prepare?

I'm really liking it except for a couple of combat bugs they've yet to sort out.

Storyline is fairly typical of this sort of game and I haven't paid any attention to it. I miss the voice acting from the first 3 in the series.

A few features are missing from the early versions and its making me want to re-install those for a bit of nostalgia but its not actually important to the way they've made this game.

It's a little disappointing to see a checkpoint system, but consoles are to blame in my opinion and most games ported from consoles in the last 10 years have this so its nothing new or surprising but makes it a little too easy sometimes.

Overall a top notch game - last one I played was Chaos Theory.

I just finished the single player lastnight and have done most of the 4e missions too.

I agree there are some bugs. The only ones I've experienced have been in co-op multiplayer games. Some of them are completely game breaking and don't allow you to finish the level. Some of them are just other weird randomness that makes it's hard to complete a level, but doesn't completely break it. They really need to fix these.. And speaking of multiplayer. Only played a couple matches so don't want to judge too much. But is there only one game mode or what? Also I can't stand the horrible super low FOV you have when you're forced to play in first person view with the mercs! It actually makes me feel sick! So multiplayer is pretty much unplayable for me. Bit of a shame. What a crappy design choice..

Storyline is just, whatever. I wasn't bothered either way lol. I miss the voice acting from the old games too! But the new Sam Fisher voice was no problem. Didn't feel out of place or weird to me.

I miss the lock picking from the older games! That was a big part of the suspense when sneaking around sometimes, really miss that.. I have been playing it on the hardest difficulty and going for ghost style mostly. I feel this difficulty level suited me perfectly. But I feel that more hardcore players will be annoyed by the fact they still let you tag 3 enemies. Then again, on this difficulty you can't see through walls with the sonar. I'm pretty sure you could see through at least some walls with sonar on the hard difficulties in the old games? I guess it works out.

I don.t mind the checkpoint system. They go far enough back each time I feel. Especially when you're trying to be stealth/ghost style on the hardest difficulty. people would be snapping controllers with the amount you'd have to restart to get it right sometimes!

And yeh I agree. Really good game! This is coming from an old school Splinter Cell fan that's played every game and hated Conviction. Ubisoft really did it ths time. They managed to make a game that caters to older stealth fans and COD kiddies at the same time. Well done Ubisoft! Best Splinter Cell yet

    Re: Splinter Cell Blacklist

Funnily enough, I just started playing the first one. In all my time, I'd never gotten to these, so I thought I'd see what they were like.
Never knew Michael Ironside was Fisher's voice, so that was a bonus surprise!

I liked Blacklist initially and then found the story going nowhere. Individual missions seemed unrelated or forcefully glued together and I lost interest. All this weapon and armor upgrade and purchasing them excercise didn't feel appealing to me.
