Best soundtracks you've heard in games?

    I watched the film oblivion the other day. The film was ok but I loved the M83 soundtrack obliviously there are many other great movie soundtracks. I was wondering about peoples opinions on best soundtracks in games? Off the top of my head the ones I liked;

    WipEout 2097
Lucas Arts 'The Dig' very ambient
World in Conflict 80's sound track
    GTA 3 & 4

For sentimental reasons , just about anything by Rob Hubbard.

Tony Hawks because it basically introduced me to Punk ( sad but true )

    Quake

Re: Best soundtracks you've heard in games?

Alone in the Dark 5 - the 2008 one.
World of Goo - red carpet extendomatic is my favourite

Alien V Predator 1999 PC - used the soundtack CD to test my B&W 601 S2 speakers in the shop on a NAD C340. blokey in the hi-fi shop in preston was flabbergasted with the variation and pace of the soundtrack, said people normally used Abba or Michael Jackson. they were the only speakers I tried that could play the song properly (cant remember which one it was, but it goes very quiet then all of a sudden BANG!! then warbles for a bit) the other amps sony/pioneer ones couldn't cope or restricted it with the auto volume levelling (to prevent damage to speakers with sudden bangs )

So I ended up buying a complete B&W 600 system and the C340 and a T761 at a later date. all for a nice £3500 just because of that game.

    Castlevania... how could I forget

Kentucky route 0 supposed have some good banjo playing I think too.

Replaying Resident Evil Remake on the gamecube and they did a great job of updating the original soundtrack and making it even creepier!

All time favorite is Last Ninja 2 loader and Central Park, the rest of the soundtrack is equally good and atmospheric and well worth listening to :

Loving the soundtrack on Of Orcs and Men :

GTA Vice City Soundtrack in all its 80's neon glory! :

Shadow of the Beast on the Amiga (Some reason they have the tracks listed in backwards order) :

Re: Best soundtracks you've heard in games?

Carmageddon 2 as it properly introduced me to Iron Maiden!

1st C&C - love the music still gives me goosebumps when I play the 1st mission
Red Alert 1 & 2 with Hell March and most of the music
C&C Generals completely different style to the previous C&C games and some of them feel very current, I bought the soundtrack a few years ago.

Also enjoy and bought the Black Ops 1 and MW3 soundtracks. Although I did not like the MW3 game much, the soundtrack by Hans Zimmer is very good if you are into that sort of thing.

There have been many great ones, but if pushed to name a couple, I'd have to say Sonic 1 and Sonic 2 as there were something extra special about those ones.

I have to agree with you. As with wipeout, it's the perfect music for the game genre. Carmageddon 2 was just simply amazing!

On a completely different genre I actually have to praise the music from World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King. The music while running around the many zones was incredible! Very atmospheric and in keeping with the style of the zone.
Lemmings and Tetris are also up there!
