Re: Recommend any MMO games?
Eve still.
Guild wars 2 is OK for a bit but you will stop after a while. Neverwinter is nothing special, but it gets all the basics right and is good value for (no) money.

Yeah it is much better than when it first went f2p. Some good story lines and no real need to pay (real money) into the game.
Re: Recommend any MMO games?
I enjoy playing Defiance, same model as Guild Wars 1 & 2 where you pay for the game and no monthly sub. Basically it is like a third person shooter, you can even play it with a gamepad and it works nicely.
Another one I like is Secret World, very Lovecraft style setting, once again no monthly sub after buying the game. You have different types of play in this one, you get things like investigation missions etc instead of just combat continuously.
Re: Recommend any MMO games?
If you go with the Secret World, make sure you play with a mate throughout, as alot of the combat can be pretty tough for a solo player, and mean taking ages to progress. Some areas are just too tough for SP, and it'll be tough trying to get someone random to help you with alot of quests. I've been playing it the past 5 months, got the game for a tenner. It's ok, and was ok at first, but some quests defy logic, and the game contains a number of things that will make your blood boil through irritation. Not least game-breaking bugs, which while being relatively rare for the size of the game, do crop up a fair bit. I've found that almost every night there has been at least one thing that either msyelf or my mate have been annoyed about with the game. Most of the time it's both of us! But for something to do to pass the time every night with a mate, it's okay. Just.
Re: Recommend any MMO games?
Guild Wars 2 is a great MMORPG, and you don't have to pay any monthly fees (subs). I had a Norn and a Human, leveled up to 51 and 73 respectively...like it a lot.
If you are into air combat, or WWII aviation, then try World of Warplanes, is coming out on Sept 26. I've been in the beta for a while now, and planing to go premium when it launches...it's a lot of fun, and it's F2P. This is probably going to be the only MMO i'll be playing for the rest of 2013.
Re: Recommend any MMO games?
star wars is ok as F2P - and ofc theres the elephant in the room
wow
Re: Recommend any MMO games?
Lord of the Rings Online (then again, that's neither little, nor indie), but has plenty of gameplay and is also F2P.
Re: Recommend any MMO games?
Star Trek Online isn't too bad, although it did only take me about 3 weeks to "complete". Space combat good, ground combat bad. Not tried the new expansion yet though. Although as it's free, there's really no reason to not try it.
Re: Recommend any MMO games?
I recently had a go at RIFT and i quite enjoyed that game, i was a a World of Warcraft player for 5+ years and all i can say is that WoW has gone REALLY downhill and RIFT is going nowhere but upwards :)
Re: Recommend any MMO games?
Personally I quite like Guild Wars 2, it has a decent story and a good combat system.
Re: Recommend any MMO games?
The issue with recommending an MMO is that it's often the in-game community that makes it for you, along with the style of questing. I enjoy the fantasy styles MMO's but this may not be to your taste.
Currently, after an extended break, I am revisiting Rift and I am thoroughly enjoying it. I think I have tried most of the larger MMO released in the last decade besides guild wars 2 and Secret World. Just go with a Free to Play. The worst thing that you will loose will be time and download limit if you don't end up enjoying it....
I will throw another game into the equation. Everquest2. Quite a bit older than most, but also Free to Play, however was always a game in the most massive sense of MMO, and with 10 years of expansions, it's still both beautiful and a challenge. However the micro transactions and default account restrictions do make it more annoying than a lot. Defiance is also pretty good if you want to try something a little bit different

Re: Recommend any MMO games?
Guild Wars 2 is quite a fun game, it's also nice that you don't have a monthly sub unlike a lot of the big MMO's.
Theres a few good MMO's being released next year though, Elder Scrolls online and Everquest Next are ones you should keep an eye on.
Re: Recommend any MMO games?
Ah yeah I forgot about Planetside. It's a pretty fun game, not your average MMO, would definitely recommend!
Re: Recommend any MMO games?
Yeah I agree that Guild Wars 2 is a great game, especially if you cant afford a sub.
