Typical overkill reaction. The RMAH is a good thing where it provides a safe market for item buying that would only happen on an unregulated black market otherwise. The problem was only when people had such little self control that they couldn't patiently work up to getting good gear for progressing and instead used money to shortcut. You could always just not use the AH and the game was still fun. Oh well, even more spam about gold sellers incoming then I guess.
I would much rather them drop the internet connection requirement - that's far more disruptive to my enjoyment when lag happens (frequently).
Now the AH is going, ostensibly the reason for the always on requirement, they could feasibly create an offline version. I liked the D2 model where they had Single Player, LAN, Open Battle.net and Closed Battle.net.
Open battle.net could use your single player character, but because the character was saved locally it was very easily hacked. It was great for playing with people you trust though, or continuing after a LAN.
Closed battle.net effectively had an always-on requirement. Your character was saved on the battle.net servers and the games were hosted on b.net too, much like D3 now. This is where the majority of online players were, but you couldn't use your (locally stored) offline characters.
I always played on closed b.net because if I wanted single player I'd just create a passworded game, but the option was there for me to play with others in a relatively hack-free (duped items were common, but no ridiculously OP hacked items) environment when I wanted to. I think a vast number of players did the same, which is why Blizz went solely with this model in D3.

I'm still upset at the price of the game on release date, along with the fiasco with the AH, this will be the last Diablo game I ever buy.
this was the first Diablo game I didn't buy
I bought the game but never played it. I don't know what I'm waiting for.
Thought they are going to change item drop mechanism. I still wish have AH maybe not RMAH but AH is good option to boots a new charater
