    MAME big screen mode

    Hi,
I've not really played with MAME for a few years, but now my kids are getting old enough for games, I was thinking of dual booting my HTPC with something that'll run it so they can enjoy some old school gaming goodness. Is there a nice front end for it that can be controlled with an XBOX controller or similar?

It'd be great if it could hook into Amiga emultators etc, but MAME is where most of the stuff is at I guess. Don't really mind OS wise, but I guess I'd be looking at Windows/Linux?

Hardware wise, it'll be running on a recentish Mac Mini.

I would personally recommend getting mameui, it has the front end built in and then you just go into the settings which is like any other Window with your tabs / dropdows across the top and set the 360 controller as control for everything but the light gun games like Op Wolf

    http://www.mameui.info/

Games like Dragons Lair and Daytona require extra files which tend to be anywhere from 8Gb up so stay away from those, they tend not to work as well either.

Once you have a file loaded press 5 on the keyboard to add credits and press 1 or 2 for amount of players to start.

I am happy about discussing Retro Arcade Games everyone, please bear in mind though that we cannot share links to sites that distribute the files.

    Re: MAME big screen mode

I've seen a few youtube videos of the HyperSpin-FE frontend - it looks fantastic but only runs on Windows. I only run Linux HTPCs so haven't had the opportunity to play around with it. It integrates MAME (and I expect a load of other emulators as well).

If I ever get round to building an emu cabinet, this will probably go in it.
