    Recommend a shooter

I need a FPS to keep me going until HL2 is released. I thought I'd be playing Doom3 now but I downloaded and played the demo, and didn't like it much (too claustrophobic, too dark, too repetitive). So, I've been going back over some of the shooters I've missed and would welcome recommendations or otherwise of these:

    Call of Duty
    Medal of Honour: Pacific Assault
    Full Spectrum Warrior
    Hidden & Dangerous II
    Painkiller
Deus Ex:Invisible War (I was put off by bad reviews)
    Halo - Combat Evolved

I'm inclined to buy COD, but if it is as linear as MOHAA I'm not so sure.

From what I understand Full Spectrum Warrior isnt really an FPS...you command units of soliders around in real time battles rather than actually doing the shooting yourself (that's what the site says anyway). Looks quite good though.

People say a lot of good things about CoD but I dont expect anything that different or innovative.

Painkiller looks nice and is fine for a quick blast but it's pretty repetitive, and unlikely to keep you that entertained.

Ever played Rainbox Six 3: Raven Shield? Getting a bit old now but still one of my faves.

Hmm...why did I think FSW was a first-person shooter? Must be going senile.

Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield - no, never played it. That's one of those Tom Clancy games isn't it? I'll take a look at some reviews.

Hitman contracts is a brilliant game, otherwise if your after a more light hearted fps postal 2 may be worth a look, try before you buy though.

Delta force BHD is also well worth a look if you ain;t already had it.

At the moment, the best couple of games out are not FPS games. Try Rome: Total War and Dawn of War if you want a bit of quality.

The Call of Duty add-on pack is also as good as the original, if you liked that it might be worth a look.

Here are some I missed along the way: -

Elite force 2 - played and enjoyed the first one just more the same I think
Red faction - something called bio mod means you can blast tunnels
Unreal 2 - played and enjoyed the first one but way too short to pay full price

Doom3 demo - not for me I want outdoor environments and variety
COD - I liked the demo but I'll now wait for them to release a complete edition

Hi guys, anyway COD and Halo are two of the best in that list. While COD is linear theres so much going on u wont care. Halo is also linear but gives u the illusion of freedom. Both have gr8 multiplayer.

PS: I'm new to the forums so hi, nice to meet u!

I've never particularly liked Halo - in my opinion, it's a slightly better than average game, but I really don't see what all the hype and fuss was about.

You might want to consider UT2004, although it might not be your kind of shooter. Plenty of glowing reviews lying around on the interweb.

I have been playing a lot of star wars battleground, Its actually a lot of fun to play. The only thing is the lack of maps but I would guess there will be some amature map makers beavering away already.

UT2004 is an excellent choice, battlefront is alot better than I expected, the maps are very good but there aren't many of them. I would agree that Halo by todays standards is only above average due to the dated graphics and linear story, however the multiplayer is 1 of the best out there.

As for FSW, the only bit of aiming you do is for grenades, that's it.

I would recommend Postal 2 (if you're a fan of their particular style of gameplay) or maybe even Max Payne or Max Payne 2. Not sure if you'd class that as an FPS but the graphics arn't that bad, got some great fight scenes in it and if you download some of the mods for it, then well, Enter the Matrix beater any day.
