Nice. I actually downloaded and installed PS2 last night for the 1st time since it was released and was planning to see how its improved from its rocky start

We'll see as I'll be playing tonight!! - they've promised performance improvements before but my system with a 4.6Ghz CPU and 8 threads is still CPU limited according to the in game readout

The difference in performance is quite simply, INCREDIBLE! The massive large scale battles are back... without the horrible performance. The surge in returning players this evening has been amazing to see. Huge footzergs and tank battles taking places on parts of the map that are normally ghost towns.
The performance improvement is obvious everywhere. Indar is especially well optimized as its had a pass on the terrain and world objects to improve performance. Esamir and Amerish will have the same tweaks applied soon.
I didn't crash, hitch, lag, warp or spontaneously explode once this evening. Playing the game today is totally changed from yesterday. The game has taken a giant step forwards
Yep I agree they have done lots of CPU optimisation and it works great - wheras before I was CPU limited all the time, now I am GPU limited on 1 x 7970. Time to plug a second one in methinks!! (I unplugged it as Planetside2 is all I play pretty much and the second GPU was useless before)!
GOOD PATCH!!!

Does this game still take an insane amount of time to get guns that are usable? I stopped playing because the starter weapons are.....rubbish
The performance jump is impressive and it seems now use all 4 cores of my Xeon E3 too.
I am TR an use th MSW-R instead of the Carv and the standard rocket launcher.
They will work reasonably well. As time progresses, and you can earn more upgrades the ratios will get better.
I never spend certs on unlocking weapons. I buy the weapons with Station Cash and then use the certs to unlock the attachments. For the price of a few cinema tickets its well worth the investment to get the weapon you want.
I still use the first two guns I bought 99% of the time. Never felt the need to replace them.
You can try out all the weapons in Virtual Reality or even as a 30 minute trial in normal battles from the Depot.
Game kept crashing after first update but it's going well today after installing the newer one.
I bought all my weapons with cert points but I also tried to make sure I get all my medals for the day,and try and participate in all the alerts.
My TR Heavy Assault person, has a fully upgraded MSW-R,upgraded CARV,mostly upgraded armour and other bits like health packs and antitank grenades, the most expensive rocket launcher with tracking ability and the standard rocket launcher. I bought also a longer range rifle too. Although I am only level 35,I think I have earned thousands of cert points so far.

Exactly my problem with the game's model :/
F2P shouldnt have huge time sinks that are overcome via paying. Not when balance is involved (ie if you want a gun that works you must earn it)
The best F2P games either focus on cosmetics, or are balanced in a way that the starting equipment/characters arent completely useless vs the higher end stuff.
Gaming should be about skill not time/money.... that idea seems to be lost on 90% of devs at the moment
The games model is fine though. The thing is the basic weapons like the rocket launcher can take out even high level enemies, and it cannot be upgraded. You can get better armour and survivability upgrades as you progress. That is what gives you the better kill ratios as you die less.
The think is I have very much a "no guts, no glory" way of playing. I charge head onto enemies including tanks and fire(like a Moose). This meant I really needed the armour to reduce the number of deaths as I was not playing safe.
The thing is my main weapon is the standard rocket launcher with the TR heavy infantry and my gun is the MSW-R which is not that expensive. Mod it with softpoint bullets and it is quite useful at short distances and accurate. My weapons are not that expensive or hard to get. The special rocket launcher was but I wanted to take out some planes. They are reallt Git Monkeys!!
I have been playing on and off for the last year, and have around 120 hours in the game(maybe a bit more but that is around the amount I think I have). It was fun playing with mates during the large battles and even if I died quite a bit early on,it made it even better when I took out the higher level person who shot me!!

You are completely right. Luckily with PS2, it doesn't have a huge effect as there are so many free players who (like me) simply refuse to pay a penny when a F2P games offers a "Pay to Win" option. The churn rate is also very high which keeps to keep it in check.
I'll jump back in later today I think, been a while since I played PS2..it was a lot of fun I still wish it wasn't F2P thought, I would happily subscribe to it as I did with PS1 for years.
F2P is simply the worst model for gamers themselves to ever blight the industry. Good for the companies and developers, awful for us gamers
Yep - all the massive multipleayer games I used to pay for - I'd do it again right now.
