little steam query

good evening everybody
i just got steam set up on my pc for the first teim because i now have adsl
after exploring it a while i noticed i could download project gordan
i thought i was gonna have to pay but it seems to be downloading without asking for money so far.
bottom line is i dont have a clue how steam works can you give me some help
also that gold hl2 pack is looking very tempting now, do they post me the teeshirts and radical stickers and then i have to download all the software? how does this one work

steam is a broadband distribution system, comprising an instant messenger, server browser, and game download system. one game is free (codename gordon), the rest cost money - you can pay direct & have a game inserted into your account, or use the less secure cd key mechanism. either way, game content can be downloaded easily, on any machine with broadband that you have access to.

for example, i have hl1 on my pc and girlfriend's pc, and can play when i'm at hers, no cds needed.

sadly not, since it is an American site. You can only use Visa or Mastercard.

i reckon i can afford 44 quid for hl2 i have waited a year or two, im guessing that edition will come out after 16th november, thats also good i will be able to read some reviews on hl2 before i purchase it
