    Doom3 help

Ok first of all if this is in the wrong forum feel free to shift!

    My system
XP SP1 did try SP2 but kept getting bluescreens which never had before, reverted to SP1 back to normal.
    KG7 raid latest bios
    XP1900
    gf4 ti 4200 128mb latest drivers, direct X9c (was 9B and 56.72)
    512mb PC2100
    maxtor 80gb 7200

I have no problems playing the game in fact it plays a lot better than expected on medium settings.

My problem is my PC crashes when it moves up another level and I get the loading bar it just goes to the desktop.

I thought I had solved it when I loaded the 1.1 patch as this let me go through into the admin level which is where it first started to crash to the desktop.

Now I have the same problem trying to get to the alpha labs level I get to the lift it shows the loading screen with the bar at the top it just starts to load then straight to desktop.

My only hope is that it is something to do with the saved game point.Loading the patch deleted any save points and I went through that level without creating a point.

Now on this new level I am trying to get through it without saving any points to see if this will solve the problem.

It is not a heat issue as it maxs out at 43 I can play all day online and within a particular level but moving up it just refuses to do.

Ran memtester for 5 loops no fails

Prime95 stable for 3 and half hours.

If no one has any ideas I guess my only option is to uninstall and reinstall it.If I do this can I save my progress so far as really don't want to start from beginning again.

    thanks for your help

The save prob is a feature of the 1.1 patch. You have to start from the last checkpoint & the Quicksave prior to the patch wont work. Subsequent quicksaves saves will provided you start from a checkpoint as i've said.

I only found out after much abuse thrown at the poor pooter

The 1.1 patch obviously did something that allowed me to get to the next level without it crashing but now it is crashing again. The only thing I can think of is it removed my save point so I am trying to get through this level without saving.Someone else recommended not using F5 to save but exiting to the main menu then savibg there.

I'll let you know if I have any success.

    thanks for your help

If you reckon its something to do with the 1.1 patch, then have you tried starting the game from scratch? Possibly uninstalling/reinstalling? I know its a bit harsh, but if you do a fresh install of the game, then update THEN start, it may make a difference. Btw, how much RAM have you got?

Sorry, seen your specs in the first post! Well, you have 512 and D3 is a real system hog. If its only when levels are loading then it may have something to do with that. How large is your paging file? I remember when I had 512 2100 in my old sys that the Painkiller demo would do that.
