    Really old RPG

I could't find any post related to this matter, so here I go...

I am after a really old 2D RPG. Scrolling RPG I do believe.

    -I don't remember the name
-The main character started as a prince of a country
-Main quest was to rescue a princess (again, I believe)
    -[Tent] was a consumable item
-One of the spells was a rainbow colored rain (could be targeted onto one enemy target or all enemy targets)
-Was similar to Final Fantasy clones
-I think some of the early random mobs were oozes
-Level cap was LvL 30 ?!? (don't have to be true)
-Early in the game there was a option to venture a very dangerous dungeon where the end monster help a sword as a price (after defeating it) for the main character

Despite searching for this game for years I couldn't find it. If I can recall correctly, I played it on a PC, but on an emulator (high chance was console sourced, not sure which or even it was a hand held or not). The game from a officially sold "low-end" CD with many small games (most likely were from a shop or as a free bundle to a IT related mag). All this happened round 10 years ago Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks!

    Re: Really old RPG

Just remembered, title was "...something... II" when the IT mags while reviewing mentioned they haven't even heard about the first one.
And unfortunately it wasn't Chrono Trigger.
Upon fight the screen blinked couple of times and moved to a battle scene, not alike to the general screen.
    Like the FF series.

Plus the spells were on scrolls only, like items.

    Re: Really old RPG

Do you remember which system it was on? that would help narrow it down a lot.

Could it of been one of the final fantasy's? or one of the spin offs?
    Maybe SaGa Frontier 2

Others I can think of off hand
    Phantasy star 2
    Breath of Fire 2
    but they don't sound right

    Re: Really old RPG

Played on a PC. Was run with a program like early GB emulators with fancy Quick save functions.
Not sure if it was a emulator plus ROM or just something alike.

Wasn't Final Fantasy (played all up to VIII several times) or any of the mainstream games, popular ones.

Neither Saga Frontier 2. It was a 2D scrolling RPG, not isometric. I have a feeling that characters didn't even had mana as they casted spells from consumable items, like the rainbow coloured rain spell.
Some spells were more effective that others against different monsters.
I know that tent was a consumable as well healing 100% HP or such.
The system was very similar to FF (like random fights during a walk on the map or general scene where you interacted).
You started as a prince of a kingdom.
In fights you shifted to a FF fighting scene with your party on one side and enemy on the other.
Think same mobs were repeated too, but colour determined they level-difficulty-quality (mud ooze < steel ooze, just to give an idea, doubt those were in).
Had a loong odd name or such, didn't even know it till I read the apparently dissapointing review about it (4 out of 10, author suggested to waste time on FF Tactics instead).
No, I can't find the review, had several years of magazines where I believe I read the review (6-7 years) only 2-3 issues missing...
