Need some expert advice re gamepads

    Hi there,

I need some help in buying a game pad.

Previously I have just been using mouse and keyboard to play first person shooters such as COD and UT2004 but just downloaded the NFS2 demo and tried out my first driving game..I love it.

This is really fiddly with the mouse and keyboard so thought I wouild take the plunge and buy a gamepad.

But where to start they range in price from about £6 to over £30.

I don't mind spending upto £30 on one if I get value for money.

I've read reviews on the Logitech rumblepad 2 which seems to get good reviews yet this is a tenner more than the Saitek 2500 which to my inexperienced eyes seems to do the same thing.

So can anyone help me with some recommendations.

As above need mainly for driving games, but are they any good for FPS aswell rumble would be fun and are wireless ones as responsive as USB gamepads?

    thanks for your help

    John

No. Unless you like being shot a lot that is.

Best thing is the get a USB adapter and a PS2 pad, far better than any PC ones available. And I tried a lot of them!

Just been on ebay and seen a few differant sorts as far as I can tell anyway.

Will all these pads work via that USB converter (as the buzzard recommends) with a PC,little concerned that there will be no XP drivers for these pads...am i wrong?

play.com do a ps2 pad adapter, but to be honest the xbox pad is just better.

And before all you playstation fanboys start bitching, just look at the spec.

Ps2 pad, 8 digital buttons, 2 analogue sticks, 1 dpad
xbox pad, 6 digigal buttons, 2 analogue triggers, 2 analogue sticks, 1 dpad

For driving games especially the analogue triggers are a must, anyone played GTR with wheelspin control off with a digital accelerator?

I'm getting well confused now ok before we slug it out as to whether the XBOX or PS2 pad is the best can I get converters for the PC for both of them and do I need drivers for XP to make it fully functional?

Why not just get a wheel for driving games? Big range of prices but you can get a 2nd hand MS one with force feedback for around £25

You can get convertors for both

    www.consoleplus.co.uk (for xbox one)

    www.play.com (for ps2)

You need drivers for both but they are both well supported and easily available on the web.

    john-boi, buy a £15 xbox controller

lop off the end of it (the bit that plugs into the xbox)

    get an old usb cable

put it back on the end of the xbox controller cable, matching wires colour for colour (there's one that you dont need, so just keep it seperate)

do a google search for xbox controller pc drivers

    install

    plug in

    enjoy
