    Half Life 2 Demo?

Will there be a half life 2 demo released? I probably will end up buying this game anyway, but I still like to try before I buy, so does anyone know anything about a HL2 demo?

Also, will I need to have played the original half life to understand this one?

    Thanks

It would be best to play the original Half-Life to get the full experience, you'll be able to get HL:S in one of the packages.

The demo created for the original Half-Life actually was NOT developed by the Half-Life team, it was developed by another team just so there was a demo. It was called Half-Life: Day One as far as i recall.

I don't think there will be a demo unfortunately. The only experience you'll be able to get is watching videos.

nope valve said from the start that there will be no demo
mabye the game actually sucks but they just want people to waste money on it
i would play the original first game and not the source version of it first, because then youll be able to see how much change there is graphically and physically and also in gameplay since the first, which would be cool
i still havnt played css! (i have no credit card so i cant buy of steam!)
gonna have to wait another month

So you all say I should play the original first then?

I think I'll find a pack with them both in.

Id say play HL:source. Afaik its just the same but with graphical updates, so you wont miss anything - also they might have made the intro video skipable in it, that would eb a very good thing, becuase its crap.

whens hl2 released in shops? dunno about everyone else, but I cba to download it!

Also what happns for people without internet connection, do they still need steam? As with steam you cant play unless it connects, can you?

You need an internet connection to play HL2.

And the "demo" of Half-Life was called Uplink

It was also the best game demo ever created!

However, IIRC it was released after HL came out.

Intro video, what intro video-unless you are speaking of the legendary train ride at the start, best bit of the game

the whole point to the gameplay in hl series is that you play intirely as the main character, no videos and you wont get to see gordan in hl2 unless there are mirrors-this is what all the gaming publications say about hl series, the amazing story telling they manage to do it without cut scenes, which is a change from the norm

hl2 should be released in the shops on the 16th thats what im hoping for anyway
although the boxed set wont come out in shops for a while

and yes it does require a connection to activate, one of the reasons why hl2 is hopefully gonna change the opinions of game producers as to releasing games on pc before consoles
because it will cut down on piracy alot kinda like a second cd key
    (i think anyway)
    thanks alot

Yeah, that was one of the best demo's I've ever played.

It was made independantly aswell so you didn't play the same levels in the full game.

    Classic!

And that's why it was great. It wasn't just a technology demo - It captured the spirit of the full game in something of a microcosm.

If you buy HL2 on steam, go for the silver package and get HL and all the add ons thrown in and playable right now....

Considering its something like $70, you'd probably pay that for HL and all its add ons anyway, so even if you don't like HL2, you haven't really wasted your money.

I bought HL when it came out but never bothered with Opposing Forces or any of that lot.... Now I've got 'em through steam and I'm working my through in anticipation of Tuesday 8am.

    Half Life 2 Demo Out

Half Life 2 Demo is out go here:

    http://www2.ati.com/hl2/demo/steaminstall_hl2demo.exe

I hate the fact that you have to install steam as well to even play the demo. I think that is completely stupid.......I mean what can someone do with the demo ? Pirate it? so....its the demo people are supposed to play it for free.

    Steam... ....jerks

Oh yea the demo consists of the first meeting with Barney and the other board is Ravenholm.
