Lock On modern air combat and IL-2 sturmovik for the flying ones obviously. Operation flashpoint also. If you like multiplayer black hawk down can be a lot of fun.
To err is human. To really foul things up ... you need a computer.

america's army if you want a pure multiplayer military fps game which is FREE and not a bad game despite all its faults. theres also wolfenstein ET which is again multiplayer only and also free.

flying ones ^^ as yamangman said , although ignore pacific fighters

OFP + addons gets my vote any day...a bit dated now, but at least we have the hardware these days to run it with 2km + visibility and all the detail up high so it can still look pretty sweet

Ohh yes, DC pwns BFV anyday, especially the choppers.

Flashpoint is good, but if you're into Vietnam shooters, take a gander at Men of Valor. Got that yesterday and I have to say it's amazing.

Got some DX9 in it (though not all), uses the Unreal engine, you get the M79 (grenade launcher!) and the battles are very very intense (even on easy!)

The firefights/battles are like CoD in quality and there are some classic scenes, like the beach attack from apocalypse now.

    Amazing and I love it

I have played Tactical ops for 4 years. It started as a Mod called SWAT on the unreal engine. Now its owned by atari and is retail only (copies of the game are about £5 if that now) It has its own cheat protection and as Atari are stopping any more updates the Tacops community is programming their own patch to keep the game going.

Love it tbh played lots of games but always come back to TO.

    Tac ops

Battlefield 1942 all the way for online fun
Download desert combat, forgotten hope and your all set to go.

Also if you liked Day of defeat for halflife get Unreal tournement 2004 and download red orchestra 3.0 (3.1 is out soon and it looks fantastic!) complete rip-off but miles better than DOD anyday
The "Frag ops" MOD also looks good (counterstrike rip-off) but not enough servers
