    WinUAE Emulation

First off you will need to find the Kickstart 1.3 and 3.0 files on the net. Unfortunately I don't have links so do a Google search and you should be able to find them. I pulled mine from my 2 Amigas hence why I have them. But remember that they are copyrighted so you must own an origional Amiga if you are going to use them with this emulator. Once you have them just put them decompressed in the installation directory for WinUAE for easy access.

Once the emulator is loaded you will have a window up onscreen with the following Tabs : (1st Line) Configurations, Ram, Rom, CPU, Display, Filter. (2nd Line) Game and I/O Ports, Input, Misc, Priority, Output, About. (3rd Line) Chipset, Sound, Floppies, Hard Drives.

Configurations : Load and save you're kickstart configurations once created.
Rom : In here the button to the right of Rom File line (Square with 3 dots in it) is used to locate the Kickstart file you want to load, find it and double click on it (Start with 1.3).

    Ram : 1.3 : Chip - 2Mb, Fast - 1Mb, Slow - 512k
    3.0 : Chip - 2Mb, Fast - 4Mb, Slow - 1Mb
    CPU :
1.3 : Check the following boxes : Match A500 speed, More compatible, 68000
    3.0 : Same as 1.3

    Display : 1.3 Amiga Screen Resolution : Fullscreen : 640x480x32, 75 Hz

Refresh, Windowed 640x480. Line Mode : Normal.

Settings : Tick in Fullscreen. Refresh : Every Frame
    3.0 : Same as 1.3

Filter : Filter Settings 1.3 & 3.0 : Tick in Enable box, Then in the dropdown next to it select the rendering you want. I would recommend Direct3D, Use the slider bars underneath to adjust the screen once you have started a game and its in Fullscreen mode. You press F12 and it brings up the window with all the settings and the game is paused in the background so you can adjust to you're monitor perfect.

Game and I/O Ports : Doesn't need anything doing at all for either Kickstart.

    Input : Same for 1.3 and 3.0 : 1st Dropdown : Compatibility Mode. 2nd Dropdown : Select you're Gamepad or Joystick.

    Keyboard settings : 1st Dropdown : Configuration#1. 2nd Dropdown : Keyboard

The main window now will light up and you can set you're Keyboard Controls.

    Misc :

Same for 1.3 and 3.1 : Put ticks in : Middle Mouse Button ---> Alt+Tab, Show GUI on startup, Use CTRL+F11 to quit.

Priority, Output & About : Leave alone, not required for the games.

    Hard Drives : Leave alone.

Sound : Same 1.3 and 3.0 : Select Soundcard from dropdown. Sound Emulation : Enabled 100% accurate. Frequency : 22050

Audio Filter : Always On. Interpolation : Disabled. Stereo Mode : Stereo.

Floppies : Same on 1.3 and 3.0 : DF0, 1, 2, 3 : Set as : 3.5" DD. You can also set access speed with the slider at the bottom, you can use the 5th drive option to create a blank disk image so if you want to save a game you have a blank disk.

    Chipset :

1.3 : Chipset Type : Full ECS. Misc Chipset options : Fast Copper.

    Collision Level : Sprites Only.

3.0 : Chipset Type : AGA. Misc Chipset options : Fast Copper.

    Collision Level : Sprites Only.

After you have done all the 1.3 settings go back to the Configurations screen and in the empty block at the bottom give it a name and hit the save button. Then do the same for the 3.0 Kickstart. You will notice they appear in the window. Whenever you start the emulator you just click on the config you want and hit the load button.

To load a game you click the floppies tab and then on DF0 block click the browse button, find the game and double click on it to load it into the emulator. If there is more than one disk you can load each one into 2, 3, & 4 the same way then after they are loaded in you hit the OK button at the bottom of the screen and the game will start to load up. If you ever get asked to change the disks you press the F12 key to bring up the config window then floppies and just hit the browse for files tab on DF0 and load the next disk into DF0. Then hit F12 again to return to the game and follow the onscreen prompts to carry on. You do this when saving you're game also on things like Monkey Island but use the blank floppy you created to save the games.

You can get WinUAE from the official site. You just need to get the Zip Archive file at the top of Downloads section :
    http://www.winuae.net/

For Amiga games here are a few links :
    http://www.server3-amiga-island.de/h...a-games_a.html
    http://amiga.supergamez.hu/EngIntroSet.html

For games for the other formats including Amiga :
    http://www.planetemu.net/
Links to the games are on the left side of the screen.

If you are going to download any games for the Amiga from any sites listed here, remember the copyrights still exist on the majority of them so dont download them if you dont own the origional. This is something I put together a while ago but never got round to publishing it anywhere !

Can I mention Cloanto's Amiga Forever which includes the ROMs? Making it legal if you DON'T have an Amiga...

You may have to save Cannon Fodder onto the main disk, cant rightly remember. Try disabling the write protect on the disk in UAE and save it that way possibly

make sure your floppy disk speed is set to normal but what I usually do is use the Save State option, which is kinda like a quicksave.

http://atomnet.co.uk/ is a good place, as is http://www.back2roots.org which as far as I know, only contains legally downloadable amiga games

Thanks for this Ferral, any more advice getting a joystick to work though, either i'm not doing it right, or it dosn't like USB/FFB/Rumble sticks.
To err is human. To really foul things up ... you need a computer.

Sometimes you have to do the swap thing I mentioned above to get it to work, occasionally on the Amiga itself the joystick did go in the mouse port. Dont ask me why !!! It was the same on the Commodore 64, virtually all games played through Joystick Port 2 but every now and then someone had to make it Port 1 to confuse the masses.

You are selecting the joystick you have in the control options, if you'rs isnt in the list use one that is a compatible.

I dont have any probs as I have the Microsoft Sidewinder pad and thats a generic configuration in Windows let alone UAE
