    HL2 woe's :(

Arghhhh... now I'm depressed... my HL2 copy was posted by play on sat. - it still hasn't arrived; whats worse is everyone else in my house has got theirs (from play/amazon etc.) *cries*

    How much does that suck?

I can hear them playing it right now!

edit: I'm thinking of just buying the silver package from steam, and then sending play's copy back when it arrives... dunno what reason I could use for sending it back though :/

Just noticed I can send it back within 7 days... so I'm seeing how much the gold/silver edition's are to the UK

    *Topic theft*

Can anyone confirm if the boxed version uses steam to authenticate?

You are so desperate that you wont wait for a hard copy? I'd rather have a retail box than a silly downloadble steam version

I'd have the steam download if they sent a boxed DVD of it to me later.

And i dont understand why they charge the same for downloading as buying in the shop, just seems like greed to me.

yeah I am :/ .. everyone else is playing it..
I notice Play have changed the data that they "posted" it from the 13/11 to the 15/11.. and so it probably wont arrive till Friday (or later.. who knows).

And, I can't play it tommorow (too much work to do), friday I'm going away till sunday etc. and I need to play it.. been waiting forever.

The box is quite lame really.. no proper manual.. I'm just going to burn the gcf's to a dvd, scan the HL2 cover; print it out.. lob it in a box.. there I have one ... and this way I also get HL1:S and DoD:S.. so its not bad; even if it is an extra £7

Ill tell you why its the sameish price on steam, buy it through steam the money goes straight to Valve, buy it retail Vivendi take thier cut, I think more should buy it on steam to support the developers, but thats just me.

It still doesn't make sense to pay the same amount for a downloaded version, you're missing the manuals, discs, packaging etc, Valve could have offered it for £10 less and they'd have still made triple the profit on each game sold..

Agreed. I guess they were looking to take advantage of the people who wanted to get their hands on the game the SECOND it was released.

Tbh even if it's the same price I'd rather buy it on Steam. I'd prefer to see the money go to Valve than Vivendi. I think Steam as a concept has great potential, so I hope it's a success.
