E.T Cartridges exhumed after 30 years

For people my age you will know about the video game crash in North America early 80's. To many different consoles and games getting released. Created problems shifting stock so shops tried to send stuff back to Atari etc who couldn't afford to refund for unsold items with having paid so much to make them in the first place.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_A..._crash_of_1983

It was said that thousands of E.T Cartridges were buried in a landfill in New Mexico due to them not being sold, there are other variations saying said cartridges were crushed and lined with cement, even Atari stated it was not just E.T, it was non working cartridges for different games and various other hardware.

However, until yesterday this has been a gaming Myth from the early 80's, I personally remember hearing about it back in the day through friends who heard it from different friends. Its never been known just how true it all is.

Yesterday they exhumed the landfill site to try and find said copies of E.T and whatever else and they actually found one of the cartridges buried 30 years ago! Its going to be interesting to see what else they find and if any of the items actually work, cartridges tend to be quite hardy, only issue was the later ones (16 Bit) that had the battery in the for saves has a habit of dying. A bit of isopropyl alcohol and clean the connectors and in most cases you are good to go.

Must admit this is a bit mind blowing!!

I'd like to think that they would work, especially as they appear to have still been in the packaging judging from the pictures from Major Nelson on Twitter.
