So any Smashers here using dolphin emulator? Whats you're set-up?
Sup Smashers,
Wondering what your set-up is and how good it runs. I'm deciding on parts for my first build :)
Re: So any Smashers here using dolphin emulator? Whats you're set-up?
Thread is fine as long as no one talks piracy and ISO files for Gamecube etc, you can use original discs with the Dolphin Emulator if you wish so keep it clear of illegal links etc please.

Oh yeah I wasn't going to get into the whole legal/illegal side of things. Just their actual hardware and settings on dolphin :)
Re: So any Smashers here using dolphin emulator? Whats you're set-up?
I've got Dolphin running on my SteamBox. It's great. The only problem I had was getting the Wii nunchuck controller working. It's a tad flakey even now it's "sorted".

Sorry - forgot to say I'm running an i5 4430 Haswell with a 660GTX coupled with 4Gb of RAM. All Dolphin settings are standard.

Oh awesome a steam box :) what brand did you get?
I always thought they were cool but it would but cheaper for me to build my own standard atx tower :P
Do you actually play smash on it though? I heard you need 3.4GHz minimum for it to run perfectly.
Nice gpu, but not powerful enough for for greedy old me. Maybe add another 4gb ram?
Re: So any Smashers here using dolphin emulator? Whats you're set-up?
Built my own! Popped an MATX motherboard in a Bitfenix Phenom case. I've not played Smash on it but I have played Mario Galaxy 2 and Mario Kart without any problems whatsoever. At the moment I've no need for any more memory or a more powerful GPU as I only play at 1080p. Even with all settings at 11, everything runs smoothly.

I would be needing a more powerful gpu for games like gw2. I thought dolphin ran almost purely on the cpu anyway?

Just hopping in with a couple of questions as I'm going to be retiring the Wii from the living room in the next few weeks, possibly replacing with a WiiU before Xmas.
Had a brief tinker with Dolphin on keyboard, but was wondering what the wiimote/nunchuck support was like - is it just a standard bluetooth connection? Does it work with Motion+? Is the accuracy good without the sensor bar (or can you fudge a sensor bar alternative)?
I did try Dolphin previously on an on Athlon II X4 @3.0Ghz, but it struggled even with GC titles. Running an i5 4670K with a 270X so hopefully it'll handle whatever I chuck at it.
Re: So any Smashers here using dolphin emulator? Whats you're set-up?
There's an adapter for gamecube controllers made by a company called Mayflash. Costs about £10 on amazon or ebay. No idea about wiimote/nunchuck but i'm sure people have found a way to do it.
That Intel cpu will automatically provide much better emulation smoothness from what I understand. and @3.4GHz it's bang on what's recommended. If it's still a bit laggy you could overclock up to 4.0GHz without any issues.

Had a little read up on this when I got in from work, the Wiimote will connect to windows over bluetooth just fine. The wiimote needs a sensor bar, which turns out to be just 2 infra-red emitters that it uses to orient itself. I've just bought a wireless one off ebay (runs 4xAAA) for £2.95 delivered, or you can use 2 tea light candles if you are desperate.
Will probably have a go at emulating some Wii games this week and report back on the performance..
Re: So any Smashers here using dolphin emulator? Whats you're set-up?
Please do! Specifically for me Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I would ask for PM which is a mod of Brawl but that requires a lot of file
sorting and would be too much effort unless you've already done it :P
I was thinking of getting the 4690K, but if the 4670K runs fine then I'll get it can save a few bucks :)
Re: So any Smashers here using dolphin emulator? Whats you're set-up?
Decided on the 4690k since its actually cheaper than the 4670k during certain times on amazon XD
Will just have to buy it on the right day.
Re: So any Smashers here using dolphin emulator? Whats you're set-up?
I play super smash bros on my laptop with an i3 4100M and a 7970M and it runs with internal resolution at 4x native 60fps :D
You shouldn't need that high end parts to run it

oh wow maybe i am going in overkill :o
Oh well I'll like to play other games aside from smash too so wont hurt XD
Re: So any Smashers here using dolphin emulator? Whats you're set-up?
Quite a fan of the Dead Space on-rails shooter (aka House of the Dead) on my Dolphin.
I use the HTPC/second gaming PC in my sig, complete overkill but that's just what is connected to the TV :P
The Wiimote sync issue do cause me issues at times though :(
