    Check that the CD is clean and that your drive lens is clean too - run a lens cleaner through it.

    Maybe check you've got enough disk space and that a virus scanner isn't interfering with the installer too.

    edit: Oh and please don't post the same thread in more than one forum section.

    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    Pretty sure it's not the sound card.

    Check the disk isn't scratched, because some CD-ROMs can read scratched disks when others fail. Give it a clean and trym again.
    I don't mean to sound cold, or cruel, or vicious, but I am so that's the way it comes out.

    i had this problem on my machine when installing The Sims 2

    it worked fine in my sisters machine in her CD-Rom drive but it didnt like my pioneer 108 DVD/RW

    i gave in after trying 3 times.. then came back to it afew days later, gave the CD a good wipe over and it worked fine

    what optical drive are you using and your sure there arn't any scratches or hairs or finger prints on the CD ?
