Favourite emu games?

Hi All,
I've just managed to get my hands on an X-arcade stick, and spent a couple of hours playing Streetfighter 2, Donkey Kong and a few other retro games.

Does anyone have any hidden gems that are worth a look? I've only set up MAME so far, but have no objections to Amiga etc ones too.

Please no discussion on where to get the ROMs as I don't want the thread locked/deleted.

Yeah definitely. I take it you have the latest bios files and everything needed to run stuff through MAME & Mess.

Don't forget that some games require a specific bios or parent rom before you can run them.

This thread is fine as long as no links or talk of piracy and where to get roms etc

How much are those joysticks?

Got mine for £80 2nd hand, although I ended upgrading the PCB to a USB instead of PS2 only one for about £30.

I must dust mine off - it's in the attic at the moment (which shows how often I get to play games these days... ).

It's a good solid stick but if you get an old one (like b0redom's and mine) you really do need to convert it over to USB. Alternatively the xbox 360 sticks work very well too though even the fabled SF4 sticks aren't as solidly built as the x arcade (though they are prettier and supposedly contain better quality switches).

+1 for R-Type. I fecking love that game. Outside of MAME (and R-Type made me think of it) I often like to play old PC Engine / Turbo Grafx games. Lots of good shoot em ups (and a really good conversion of R-Type though there's no point playing it if you have the arcade version).

Also with Street Fighter 2 - loved it at the time but I tend to find the King of Fighters games of the same era (e.g. KOF 93) more fun these days.

Amiga wise I occasionally go back and play through Turrican 1 and 2.

And if you really want old school I often go back and play Fantasy Zone II (sort of a cutesy and expanded version of defender) and the original Aleste / Power Strike (same game, Aleste is the Japanese name) on the Sega Master System.

Thanks - the music from that not very fun but weirdly moreish game is now stuck in my head...
