counter strike- source wont connect to games?

When i try to join a counter-strike source game and press join game it just does nothin and then the latency goes upto about 1101 or 2000, i then quit and try and use the internet and it wont work. We are using a linksys(crappy) router and a wrieless card. What can i do, oh and are there any patches for half-life2 or counterstrike source, or updates i mean to fix bugs? thanks, John.

    Hi,

    What firewall are you using?

I found that steam is a really crap program, it makes over 600 connections (no idea why) and my firewall blocked it, because no normal program needs to make that many connections...

I have upped the max connections limit to 1000 (from 600 default) now and i almost never get the problem anymore.

Yes i've noticed that using Steam usually exceeds the maximum number of TCP Simultaneous connections in Win XP SP2, so you might want to also try downloading this fix here if you're using XP SP2.

Hmmm, doesn't give me problems with the XP SP2 firewall, but my Kerio Winroute firewall blocked it at default.

It sounds as though its a problem with your router not being able to handle the large ammount of NAT Active sessions and causes your router to crash. What Linksys router is it and then we can determine which Firmware file you need to download to upgrade it. A Firmware is quite similar to a Motherboard BIOS incase you didn't know.

have you tried putting your IP address of the PC on the LAN as the DMZ. Steam is a pain as it needs something crazy like over 100 concurrent connects and it seems that router is struggling to cope.

Access the admin panel and change the DMZ to your LAN IP and this might solve the issue

Yes. Enable DMZ and Set the DMZ zone as your PC's IP address. Once this is done your PC will have "proper" access rather than behind ports and port filterings etc so keep your system secure and steam should connect.
