    Question Firefights & Battles

Whilst reading the memorable moments thread I noticed a fair few people making reference to the Ohmaha Beach Landing on Medal Of Honout : Allied Assault.

What battles really stick out with these action games, wether they are fps, flight sims or strategy.

    Me :

Call Of Duty, first russian scenario. Sitting duck in the boat waiting to land on the beach only to be handed a handful of ammo no matter how hard you try to get a gun ! Rushing (Russian !!!) up the hill with the gun emplacements at the top ducking behind whatever cover you can find and eventually getting the sniper rifle.

Unreal 2, when the ship has been damaged and landed on a remote planet. You have to venture outside and get the force field beam things and get them set up ASAP (Something like a 3 minute timelimit on this part). Angels then turn up in heavy battlesuits and are swarming all over. Tend to take out the shield things pretty rapidly leaving you open to allsorts of hammer.

Omaha Beach, think we all have the same thoughts on this one. Most memorable bit for me is reaching the top of the beach and you have to scoot across the minefield whilst getting shot at by the gun emplacements.

Dungeon Keeper 2, level where you have the 45 minute time limit. Humans on each side of this huge lake type thing and the opposing dungeon on the other side. Capture as many humans as possible and convert them then with about 7 mins to go make an assault on the other dungeon. All hell breaks loose, hundreds of characters onscreen as you try to push forward to take out the enemies dungeon heart.

These are just a few that really stick out in my mind. There has been so many great games over the past few years.

That COD Russian Section is brilliant. Does it ever remind you of the film "enemy of the gates" as I'm sure they've used that for the basis of creating the level.

I think the best level in Dungeon Keeper 2 was the final level - the attacks were so much more brutal and relentless than before.

Myth- the bonus level where you lead about 5 dwarves to the ruins of their leader's level, only to have 100 ghols come screaming at you while the dwarves are frantically trying to lob grenades at them.

got quite a small on here

the bit in half life when you get to the surface for the first time just after the marines arrive and you here the chopper over the top of the warehouse, occainsionally dropping bombs on you, the marines run in you dive for cover and the ensuing fire fight lasts about 2 mins until you run across the yard and jump in the drain thing

the bit in halo when you searching for the surviving crew members and your fighting the covenant in the warthog
    awesome stuff

pretty much all of cod is awesome

so many more that i cant remember

Chucked a nade out a window, quickly followed by me. Blew up a couple of the enemy, shot a couple more with my ppsh (think it was that gun), switched ti postole had another, then finished with my Knife. Them my teams sniper blew my head off. Couldnt stop laughing.

Another one. Romanov, Masterflash and myself on the same team (might have been a clan practice). I was sniper, spot a figure right at the edge of the map moving about bang, got him, unfortunately it wa Romanov about to cap the last flag oops Was a luvly shot though

IL2.. twas a bright November morning over the Crimea... me an Dak in P40's warming up on the runway...switch to enemy frequency... hear the enemy bombers calling in course and altitude... brief goes out of the window.. we're going after the bombers...

race down the runway... wheels up and climb climb climb.. get to around 5000m.... see the specks that are the heinkels coming in to bomb our guys on the ground... they're dead level.. we're closing with each other at around 500 kph... we move into line abreast formation... target a bomber each on the left and right edges of their formation... closer.. closer.. finger hovering over the trigger... get to 500m range in no time at all... open up all 6 .50 cal Brownings and watch pieces fly off the stricken bomber as we race through their formation... then out the back of the bombers, turning hard to get back on their 6 to give them the good news... rear gunners frantically firing back at us, tracer all over... give my bomber another squirt and watch as flames pour from the starboard engine and the crew begin to bail out... I watch as Dak scores a lucky hit on the pilot of another aeroplane, which immediately drops into an unrecoverable spin...

all of a sudden, bang bang bang... oil all over the windscreen, smoke coming from somewhere and losing fuel... look to the left and I can see through my wing... Time to go home... limp back to base and execute the best landing ever... First bomber kill in VEF and lived to fight again

    that and... draws DEEP breath...

The Longest Day, The Great Escape, Kelly's Heroes, A Bridge Too Far, The Heroes of Telemark and practically every episode of Band of Brothers... especially if you buy the expansion pack...

CoD: The night fight in the French village. Just had a 'feel' about it. Pavlov's house. When we trained in Berlin in the fighting city was a building just like the one portrayed in this level. Once it really got going in there it was every bit as intense. Love that level in Cod 1.

CoD UO: The Russian battles. So big, especially the trenches outside Kursk, you get hit from just about anywhere. Gives that feeling of just random luck if you get through. That or random bad luck if you don't
