The price is stopping me, 60euros (£40) everywhere over here!!! Is it £30 in Eng? If so, would it be that price, in say....Luton Airport?
Got mine for £24.99 out of choices.
To err is human. To really foul things up ... you need a computer.
Demo gives you the opening chapter and the 6th. If you've been putting off buying it, get the demo and see for yourself, will buy it myself, v.imressed by how the characters faces express emotions and the amount of detail in the physics of every single object. Looks great even on an Fx5200 on 800*600.
just finished it, they did an excellent job of leaving you wanting more
personally i thought it looked amazing on my ti4200
cant wait to get a vanilla x800 and my new rig and play the whole game through on it!
i wish they had made some of the levels a little less linear, they should have made small interiors for all the houses just as you leave the station, because it is such an old technique to just put locks on the doors, not something a modern game like hl2 should have
btw will the visual side of things improve 50%, 100%, 200%?! for me when i get my new card?
i guess im just excited now
cant wait till end of jan!
also is it possible to get the console down? i wanna noclip and explore the levels a bit more....

Ditto m8, can't wait to see it on a 6800Gt rather than a Fx 5200, the water effects (not in demo) and textures should see a big boost.
Off Topic: If you buy HL2 off steam, does it download all in one go (my connection gets cut off cause of Router), I don't supposed you can use a download manager..?
It downloads automatically from steam when you open it up. If you then look at the steam monitor, then it tells you what DL rate it is and what content server is being used. I left it overnight and then pretty much one day too and it was all down fine, but i guess there are updates too.
When you close steam, the DL stops and when it is reopened, then it resumes. Pretty nice system imo. Also, as I'm sure you'll askthere is a utility to backup the files you've downloaded and then burn them to CD/DVD

Personally I think it's a fantastic idea, as it's going to let you see if your existing system can cope with the new engine.
Remember Doom3 and all the warez copies floating around? How many of those people just really wanted to know if the game would run ok on their existing system?
I didn't buy it HL2 for weeks cos I didn't think it'd run on my system. Eventually took the plunge and yep, it runs ok - Would have been happier knowing that I could have pulled a demo down to try rather than risk £35.
I'm one of the undecided few still thinking about getting HL2, and a demo was what was needed - not going to bother downloading it though, 700+ MB is a bit large - I'll just wait till one of the gaming magazines sticks it on a DVD.
