Popular and perfectly good games you can't get into..
So i've been playing Mad Max and loving it 40 hours in love the brawling brutality of the combat (wall finishes) & Car combat too. plus I've always like the post apocalyptic type games. As the combat is borrowed from Batman Arkham Asylum I decided to have a go as its in my library. I don't like Batman game at all. I can't get into the game don't like the art style or stealth game mechanics. The fighting is more elegant than Max but I prefer max really. So I was thinking is it just me or do other people not like perfectly popular and good games.
There are other games I couldn't get into such as:
Skyrim (although loved new vegas)
Uncharted
Tomb raider
Metal gear games
Zelda
Metro 2033
Portal
Bioshock
To name but a few I recognise they are good games but just not for me I guess.
Re: Popular and perfectly good games you can't get into..
There are about 200 games in my steam library! I've thought about it and have a number of excuses!
Investing the time into a single game; as I've got older and my reflexes have worsened I find it harder to find the games rewarding with minimal investment.
So many games to choose from in my steam library.
I forget the storyline and CBA to start again. Either after a week doing something else, loss of save or I can't get on my PC due to kids or a game I don't want them to watch when they're around.
F2P daily rewards drag me away from the games I want to play.
Re: Popular and perfectly good games you can't get into..
Far Cry 4, Assassins creed (any) and Batman AA for me - Far Cry as its far too open world (and its lost all the fun of the first 2 in the series), and Batman I don't know..I had never played any of the previous ones in the series but as everyone raved about them, I picked it up. I hate the bat mobile sections and the rest of the game just doesn't feel "fun". it's similar with AC - everyone raves about how good it is but it just seems a bit simple and boring to me.
Each to their own I guess :) I'll eventually get into them and play them through I am sure..but for now, TW3 is holding too much of my attention!
Re: Popular and perfectly good games you can't get into..
Borderlands would be a big one for me, the art style looks cool and I feel like it should be something I'd get into but having actually played a little bit of the first one I just don't get the appeal. Crysis 3 is another one... I enjoyed the first two and according to the critics Crysis 3 is superior to its predecessor but something about it just doesn't click with me. I keep meaning to go back and give it a second chance but there's always something more interesting on the horizon.
Re: Popular and perfectly good games you can't get into..
Elite: Dangerous. I got it on release, I've tried to get used to the flight dynamics and I just can't.
I suppose I'm not fifteen, any more.
Re: Popular and perfectly good games you can't get into..
Assassin's Creed for me, and looking further back Prince of Persia. I loved Ninja Gaiden and wanted to give them a try but they felt far too slow! I also didn't like Batman: AA mainly because of the combat system but also I didn't like the stealth. I usually like stealth games such as Splinter Cell and Metal Gear Solid but the stealth in Batman just didn't feel right.
Re: Popular and perfectly good games you can't get into..
Bioshock never appealed to me

Elite dangerous was a game i stuggles with. Although not for the same reason.
I think spending alot of time on the game before release, and then being sent back to square 1 left me deflated. I tried to continue but never got to where i was before.
Re: Popular and perfectly good games you can't get into..
Bioshock, newer batman games, assassin creed games... Come to think of it, most games! I've completely lost interest in gaming, just after buying a GTX 970!
Re: Popular and perfectly good games you can't get into..
Bioshock.. totally agree.. cannot see what the fuss was about.
Nor Far Cry is all honesty
Re: Popular and perfectly good games you can't get into..
but the big one for me is
/drum roll......
HALO
it is a crock of .. well.. it's just pants.
All of them
Re: Popular and perfectly good games you can't get into..
Hearing games like uncharted or metal gear mentioned feel like blasphemy
Re: Popular and perfectly good games you can't get into..
Any MOBA...
Minecraft - really? I graduated from 8bit stuff in the 80's. The memories are nostalgic. The desire to relive them are nil.
Most RTS games. Just not a fan of hurry up and wait. The same applies, to a lesser degree, to turn based RPG's. Do I really need to wait 10 minutes for the 34 skeleton archers to all miss?
Super hero games. Any of them. I stopped wanting to be a superhero when I was 7. I guess it's a generational thing.
Zombie games. All 3 billion of them.
As far as Borderlands goes, the appeal is in the humor and story line. It's one of those games you really have to immerse yourself into, or you're missing the majority of the game, which isn't really (IMO) about killing everything that moves, although that is a big part of things.
Bioshock? The first one was groundbreaking. The second, not so much. The third, you almost have to have a taste for the dark side of American history to get into. It took some people with very large... ummm... fill in the blank... to release that game, because it called a lot of old American culture out to the carpet. And I loved the twists they did on the music. I knew every song in the game, yet not a single one of them in the way they were presented.
Far Cry lost my interest when FC2 was NOT a continuation of the first. I hate games, movies, tv shows, etc that do that. You leave me at a cliffhanger, you better darn well finish it. I'm kind of at the point where I'd like to punch GabeN in the nose for not finishing Half Life, but at least he hasn't forked it to something else.

Same here, I backed the kickstarter as I loved Elite so much on my Amstrad CPC464. Just couldn't get on with the new one at all.
I'll add my vote for Zelda as well, tried it on N64, Gamecube, Wii, just cannot see what the fuss is about, people rave about it so much and every version seems exactly the same, it holds my attention for maybe 6-8 hours then meh.
Re: Popular and perfectly good games you can't get into..
Skyrim (and almost any offline RPG that feels like a single-player MMORPG)
AssCreed
MOBAs
GTA
Re: Popular and perfectly good games you can't get into..
EVE: Online.
Hate, hate, hate.
Awesome graphics with excellent character creation/animation, yet nothing to then do but walk around your space-hotel room. Pretty space stuff, but then just click-click-click your way around the galaxy. Combat exists, yet it's nothing but click-and-hope to see if you win. No flight control, no skill, just dice rolls and spreadsheets. No idea why people think it's better than Elite/StarCit/Freelancer/NoMans/etc...
Elite is one of the few I have remained playing since Day 1. Pretty good flight-sim style but with spacey things added, without overcomplicating the gameplay.
Hated Batman, Metro 2033, Crysis and most FPS games like Dirty Bomb.
Bioshock was weird, because I had no idea what it was about when I started. Got bored, never finished it.

I hated Borderlands until I team-played it with a couple of friends - Suddenly it became REALLY good fun!
